I just bought a used 10/22. Stainless steel 0.920 diameter barrel with spiral hammer forged finish and a laminated wood stock. After cleaning it up I took it to the range and found it to be a very good little gun.

Like most used guns here this one has seen it's fair share of abuse. The stock needs to be stripped and refinished. The fit between the stock and barrel is very tight. 1) Is this normal? 2) There are three pins located in the receiver. Two secure the trigger mechanism. The third is much larger in diameter,I'm not sure what it does. This third one is very loose. Problem ?

I put a Tasco red dot sight on it for now.

I think the pin you are referring to is the bolt-stop pin. It isn't unusual for it to be pretty loose. As for the stock/barrel fit, it all depends on who fitted the stock to the action and barrel. With the heavy barrel, a snug fit may not be an issue. Mine is floated from an area about 2 inches ahead of the receiver forward. I chose to bed the first 2 inches simply because of the weight of the barrel bearing on the aluminum receiver. You should have a good little gun, so have fun with it!

A lot of the aftermarket stocks are referred to as 99% fit. This provide a slightly undersize interface and the action presses into the stock. I wouldn't think it would touch the barrel, however.
