If you could only have one centerfire rifle what make, model and caliber would you choose? Mine would be my Tikka M695 in 30/06. I love this rifle. It shoots very accurately and looks good too.

Tikka's are a nice rifle as long as it was from before the Sako take over. My buddy has one in a 300 win mag, very nice. I really like my 270 Voere. Same thing, accuerate and a very pretty gun.

I LOVE my 30-30 lever winchester. but that might be the little kid watching westerns in me too. But I can get that thing going as fast as my auto-loading .22 and hit's the target everytime.

I have a Remington model 600 Mohawk chambered in .243. Extremely accurate. It was the first rifle that I used to kill a deer, and has never failed me. I believe they originally sold for $99. They were meant to be a cheap little gun, but were found to be extremely accurate "brush guns". I believe it has to do with the barrel being shorter than usual, something like a compact rifle.

Howdy. My Rem 788 in 308 it has the 18.5 inch carbine barrel, synthetic stock, topped off with a 3-9 leupold and man does this rifle shoot Very Happy I don't think this rifle has ever shot a group larger than a 1.5 inch and with a tuned load 3/4 inch (@100yds) all day long. It's by far my favorite.

If I could only have one rifle I'd get myself a LongBranch No. 4 Mk1* Enfield in 303 British. Most enjoyable handling rifle I've held. Smile

Its on the list, I could buy it now, but need money for after college so its on the back burner for now. Sad Would be a bonus if I could afford a matching Longbranch No.4 (T) but that would set me back more then my students loans for college! Shocked

I have at times owned 4 788's SSJoe. Three .308 and a .243. The .308s all very accurate but have not found the right load for my .243. The first .308 I shot the barrel out, no idea how many thousand rounds I put thru it in thirty years. The throat just got too bad th shoot accurately anymore. The Tikka only beats them because of it's looks. I still look for 788s in every gun shop or show I go to. Would like to have all calibers, especially the 30/30 version.

Cool pit55, the reason i asked about the tikkas is that i never heard of it. of all my rifles i would choose my 8-06 with 125gr to 250 gr selection, it does everything i do or would hunt for. as for factory rifle ,i like my marlin 336 in 30-30 win. 100gr to 170gr ,works for me! Shooting dave

I was at a gun show today and I had a 788 in .270 in my hands, beautiful rifle in excellent condition, $450. I almost bought it but I'm holding out for a pumpkin thrower. Looking at getting a handy rifle in .500 S&W.

Winchester Featherweight, pre64, Model 70, 270 Winchester. It exudes craftsmanship, is eary to carry and the 270 Winchester can do it all, from varmints to big game.

BTW: this rifle is amazingly accurate with cast bullets, gas check, too.

Only one, well that would be difficult. My preference would be a commercial FN Mauser in .280 Remington. Take care...

Winchester 94 in .30 WCF for ranges of 100 yds and less and Browning A-Bolt .30-06 for anything over 100 yds.
