Vince,

I've used the tarp method myself to make a tent. Especially since unless its near the car I don't want to carry that 4 man tent that I got. Weights more then everything else I carry (but the food and water) combined. Shocked

'Mitri, a hootchie weighs only a few ounces...they are not even remotely heavy, but then again, they are designed for use by the military. The US military used to make a poncho (maybe still do, not sure) that did double duty as a hootchie. Heaviest part of a hootchie setup is the cords and pegs.

Yes a Hootchie or tarp doesn't weight much, but my 4 man tent is a commercial camping tent that weights 15 pounds or so I think. Shocked

Vince,

I think he means like a 2 man pup tent they are tents missing the bottom. Smile

Thing I'd be worried about is total weight, at 10-11 pounds its quite heavy. Shocked

Dimitri

Daniel, have a look at this thread mate. Should answer most of your questions and there is also a number of good links in there.

Packs and Frames - Any Suggestions

Dan,

I carry alot of weight too while hiking its just adding extra weight on top of that is alot. After all I do carry about 12.5 pounds of water alone (6 quarts or 1.5 Gal) at times. Shocked

As for the nick name some reason I think Bushy gave me it! (someone else may correct me on this if I'm wrong I've had CRS for too long to remember things like this) Very Happy
