I've always liked the propane filled runners myself - You know what they say; "there is no problem so small or large that the proper application of high explosives can't resolve it." I'm sure the same can be said for most of life's inequities.

Used carbide gas (acetylene) when I was a kid. Dad said to gas the gophers in the front yard. So we did. Then we, my brother and I, figured it would go faster if we administered a match to one of the holes. Yup...You guessed it. Not only did we use too much carbide and water we also blew up the whole front yard.

Off to the woodshed...Again.

Bushy that reminds me of a friend of mine that used a propane torch to get rid of voles or something in his yard. It's one of those torches they use to burn weeds with, has a really big nozzle on it and he stuck it in the little animal holes to fry them. Ended up burning down a tree that way. I'm sure he smoked em good but the yard looked like war zone.

Now that this thread is thoroughly hijacked... If you ever pour gasoline into a yellow jacket nest to get rid of it remember that they have multiple entrances, frequently hidden under pine needles or leaves...

If you wait until after the sun goes down you can do anything you want with that nest. I had one in the back yard - waited til dark and sprayed it down with wasp killer. Never saw another yellow jacket.

man you guys is primitive...get some "carboral" powder its marketed over here as No more wasps...available from most hardward or garden centers..you puff a tablespoon full in entrance to nest..only need to do one and by morning they all dead. petrol or diesel work but you cover entrances and leave it alone to fume them out..powder stuff much easier..Ive thought about loading .12ga shell with it as you could shoot and run and get it in place easy during daylight..on a average days hunting during summer I will go past 4-5 wasps nests all chances to get stung the dirty mongrel black n yellow hot ars&% bas^$#@s !!!!

I'm on an NZ website along with Elvis who by the way uses a different moniker, I'll let him divulge,.
Anyhow there was a whole 3 pages of wasp cures, but by far Carboryl is the best cure for the hua's.
Blowing them up is fun but can go way wrong, the forum had gunpowder down the hole, diesel and many other solutions.....made for a good laugh

Mickey Duck is what my "ugly blisters" nick named me as a kid...seemed as good as any. use my own "handle" on ballistics research. maybe should have been "milky" there as other work mates gave me that one......trust a copper to ferret me out.

I don't want to have to get close enough to a wasp or yellow jacket nest to "puff" a tablespoon of anything into the nest. The "Black Flag" wasp spray shoots a stream up to 30 feet. Doing it after the sun goes down keeps them all in the nest to die together.

Ummm...what is the problem with these wasps and yellow jackets? I take it they are nasty little buggers and have the ability to think and gang up on a guy.

I've always used a can of WD40 and a cigarette lighter. Flame

Doesn't kill them outright, but they ain't flying anywhere soon...the blast from the WD40 disintegrates their wings in a millisecond. Once they hit the ground its just a matter of stepping on them, or if there is heaps, a spray with a good bug spray.

In Ohio we have what are commonly and incorrectly called "ground bees." They are actually hornets that live in a large nest in the ground and become a problem towards the end of summer. In mowing grass, the first pass goes OK; on the second pass they're ready for you.
