How many people see rounds impacting their targets through their scopes? I never have with a rifle, but I have reciently with my new 17.HMR. I find my rifle jumps just enough to not really see the impact, this could be due to my using a lighter hold on the gun.

On a nifty fifty i have......from bench only though because shooting prone would pick up a dust line all the way to the target on a dry day. Neutral

The only rounds of my own I have seen hit the target is when I was pistol shooting. Might be why I wasn't a real good shot....watching the target instead of my sights.

When shooting pistol sillouette I would spot for a mate and I always saw his rounds hit the target, as he did mine. The only time I could see this though was when using either binos or a spotting scope. Knowing where to look was also a help.

Cheers, Vince

Another thought. I believe the sound of the shot would make most, if not all, either blink or momentarily close their eyes, it is a natural reaction. Try clapping your hands suddenly infront of a mates face....he will blink or shut his eyes, can't help it.

I would imagine that this reaction would stop the majority from not seeing the strike. Although a blink is only a fifth of a second or thereabouts, coupled with recoil it would be sufficient to take your eyes off target long enough to miss the strike.

Just a thought.

Cheers, Vince

Howdy .22 rimfire's with a good scope at 75 yds I can see them impact the target. This makes me think of a story my buddy told me he had took his daughter hunting . They were set up along a field about 100 yds apart there was a buck in the field he was watching with binoculars and waiting for his daughter to shoot he said he saw hair fly off the deer and than heard the shot Very Happy

Sometimes when "timing" shooters during our summer pistol matchs I see bullets impacting targets, both steel and paper. However it is significantly easier to see the 45 ACP bullets vs 38 super. As far as seeing my own bullets impact? No, unless you count prairie dogs and then you are really seeing the results of impact.

I have a swarovski 6X42 on my .22 that some may consider overdoing it abit, but with optics this fine you no only see your subsonic rounds in flight whizzing toward the target, you also see them impact and occasionally i see the round exit the rabbit as well! have never been able to do this with any other make or model of scope. Guess you get what you pay for!

The only thing I have that will reliably let me see the bullets impact is my .17 Remington. It's pretty neat. I wish we could do it with more calibers. Best wishes.

On the range with a scope I can see SV 22 rounds impact but not HV rounds. I will have to try a short or even a CB cap and see what that looks like. It makes a difference what you are shooting at as well.

I often can see the bullet impact when varmint hunting- but only under certain conditions.
Vince is right about blinking, IME- at least when I'm spotting for another shooter, I blink.
At most typical varmint hunting ranges, like under 400 yards, the rifle's recoil prevents me from seeing bullet impact. When the range exceeds 400 yards, if I shoot from a solid rest, the rifle returns to rest before the bullet reaches the target. If you pay attention, you can watch the bullet strike.
Good optics help a lot here.

I think it was easy to see pistol rounds we shot , with the sun at our back and the slow velocity of the round, plus we shot lead semi-wad cutters in our 44 mag, they would come into view about 75 yds. out. pretty cool.

I've been fortunate to see many hits with the 244Rem and 85gr sierra HPBT. Popping the eastern groundhog from atop a 75 ft high hill across a valley to a sloping hillside with pasture and alfalfa fields. Max shooting range would have been near 800 yds. With 10x50 binocular for spotting and a 10X Lyman All American scope adjustable for parallax on a 722Rem. Used a free standing monopod with adjustable padded rest. Prone position, left hand on toe of rifle butt and 2# trigger and left it free recoil. It could only go straight up and drop down into battery in time to see the bullet hit. Hadda use Kentucky Windage and compensate if you missed. The range finder was the crosshairs that subtended .3 inch at 100 yds. A good day was 3shots per kill. Sorry to say the farmer leased his ground and we were denied permission to use it. In two years I have personal knowledge of 280 plus hogs taken. The second year there my pard and I got 156 total with the Rem and Heavy Barrel Sako he used in 243 Win.
