From 8 April 2013, if you wish to buy ammunition for one of your handguns,

2. The firearms licence or permit authorising you to possess firearms of a type that take the ammunition being purchased, and
3. The current registration certificate in your name for the firearm for which the ammunition is required, or
4. The issued Permit to Acquire in your name for the firearm for which the ammunition is required.

Yep,
That added level of embuggerance for licensed shooters will surely be followed by the criminal lebanese and vietamese crowd doing the shootings. Just like they follow all the other laws...............

Ah but its not about criminals is it.
Its about total control and disarmament.

so you are buying 357mag ammo for your Rossi puma same goes for .44mag .22lr or .22magnum same deal.... just have to be carefull what calibre/chambering of handgun you own.
it is indeed a measure to make life harder.

Not a great deal different to what we already have here in QLD Gelan. Only real difference is the need to produce authorisation for the firearm.

Pete got it right...the mongrel Lebanese and Vietnamese crime gangs will of course comply with these laws...the same way they comply with all other laws of the country...with contempt and ignore them.

not sure yet, except for the 22lr, I pretty much reloads everything, so I really rather this not happens.

at any rate, it still proves that the new law will fix squat, nil, zero!
all it'll do is to make it harder for the business, and guess the more job for the licensing to replace damaged or loss certificates due to the need to carry them with you when purchasing ammo.

Currently here in Queensland when buying ammo or powder you just need to show your shooters licence and in the case of powder fill in an entry in a register, name ,address and amount purchased.
You also have to show your shooters license to handle firearms, only in the catagory's you are licenced for. So if you have a rifle licence you cant handle handguns and visa versa.
The crims of course follow ALL of these embuggarences.

In NSW the law is pretty much the same as QLD as far as what dhc described.
OTOH next month, we are going to need to carry our gun registration paper to buy ammo for them.

What the.......? They never have anything to back up their claim of less gun violence, and it's going to do anything, only bother legal gun carriers. Get into the reloading business, roll your own and sell for profit. Prime bootlegging fodder if you ask me. It actually says in the article that current limits they've imposed have seen no progress toward less gun violence. So they add more! Disreguarding the criminal element's ability to do whatever they want. Lovely how that works. Disarm the population so the criminals can have a field day, works every time.

Ok they withdrawn the new law due to the amount of protests and IMHO the stupidity of the idea.

IMHO the silly law is akin to trying to stop crime by placing "Gun Free Area" stickers.
It wont stop any bad guys, it only serves to alienate the good people.

We need to propose posting "Crime Free Zone" signs as a solution to crime, just so they'd realize how silly that is.
