I received this link in an email from a mate today. There are some very shocking incidents reported that could have easily been avoided had the shooters used a little commonsense.

The message is simple...SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY, attention to detail and heed the warning signs.

A mistake that is too easy to do. We must always be vigilant. His first real mistake, though, was continuing to use the rounds when he already had a chambering issue. He should have stopped right there.

I currently have a live round stuck in my AR15 chamber with a cleaning rod mechanically locked to the bullet. When I have time, I'll post how I'm going to discharge it and avoid the above. You guys are welcome to line up and throw rocks my way.

I hate it when that happens. He was very lucky to walk away. All the best...

Popcorn

That sounds like fun...

I had a buddy pop a primer that got lodged in the Cam pin and would not let the bolt un lock from the barrel extension even tough the carrier had started back and was 3/4" into the recoil spring tube.... No live ammo to worry about but un-building an upper to fix that was a trip.

Playing with my 300 Whisper, I got plenty of chance to have boolits stuck in the barrel.
Best way to dislodge a stuck jacketed projectile is to soak it in wd40 overnight.
Lead boolits are not as stubborn.

Zoom in on the photo showing the fired cartridges & look at the primers!

"Mild load" my a***!

One more example of why not to trust someone else's reloads unless you are VERY well acquainted with their methods & attitude.

Mike,
Thats what happens when the gas cant get out the "normal" way.
The next weakest points of exit would be the primer, the case and then the action. A mess what ever way you look at it.

I was reading on another forum about a guy who is using a cleaning rod to drive out cases in his rifle - swearing that it is a "middle of the road" load and he doesn't want to reduce it further.

Another person pointed out that his "mild load" was two grains over the maximum listed load in his manual.

Only two of about twenty posters mentioned that the load was obviously too stout for the components and gun. The rest were talking about replacing the extractor or checking case length or other things that have nothing to do with sticking cases. I brought up that he should examine the chamber to make sure it was properly polished and if it was then he had an overload for his rifle with those components and should reduce the charge.

I doubt he will change - I have seen other great guns destroyed by loads that were unsafe in any gun being fired repeatedly while ignoring all the over-pressure signs. I think it is God's way of disarming the idiots.

In my situation, I was shooting a 200-yard 20-shot stage and the 20th round loaded but the bolt did not lock. The hammer dropped but didn't connect. The forward assist did not help. I must have had a resized case that wasn't small enough and or a dirty chamber. Another guy said here, use my steel rod to knock it out - That was a big mistake!!! I should have separated the upper and drove the bolt into battery from the rear, reassembled, and discharged the round. Instead the steel rod mechanically locked with the bullet, is now bent, and can not be extracted. I soaked the barrel from both ends with B-blaster and Liquid Wrench penentrating oils for 2 weeks. Nothing is budging.

A fellow shooter suggested I drill down beside the primer and pry it out. I tried a couple fired cases and got the technique down. Then tried a case with a live primer in it. Pop! The drill bit cut through the primer sidewall. Ain't trying this techique.

Also, tried and easy-out for bolts that locked onto the case head but when I turned a wrench on it, the case didn't budge and the tool cut-off the rim.

So I built this test fixture. It holds the barrel in the verticle so any components will go up and down. It has two safeties, metal cover over the breach and the "firing pin" screw has to be turned all the way down to touch the pimer. I'm goign to set it up at 100 yards and shoot the front block of the hinged fireing pin with a .22. That should clear the case and I should be able to drive out the bullet with the stuck rod.

Elvis, I didn't think the gunsmith would be very friendly if I brought this into his shop. The stuck rod made this situation rather complicated.
