I saw this on FB the other day and shared it to a friend who is heavily into the re-enactment scene using horses...it's amazing what these horses are like.

My sisters are into horses and always complain about people shooting on adjacent farms. "The horses are terrified..." I called BS and asked them what they did to the horses to "terrify" them. I've been reenacting for 34 years now and have been watching horses who were pretty calm on the "battlefield" for all that time. And I can tell you than some deer rifle doesn't quite compare to a 12 pound Napoleon going off a few yards away!

My pistol range is right next to the barn. When I start shooting both of my horses come to the fence which is not more then 20 feet from the range. Get bored and slowly walk back to whatever they were doing.

Trained for it or not, I heard it said that you could shoot from the back of any horse, once.

Yup...Just once...No matter how much you train a horse he will still prove that he's a horse...

They can be trained to put up with rifles being shot by the rider, but it takes building trust. If that horse doesn't trust you then don't even try!
