Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Very Happy

Aaaand...I so got my butt kicked yesterday at the match. Been in a slump. Confidence is toast. I'm jerking my shots. On a 6", 6-plate rack from 15y? I hit the same spot on the rack, 4" low, 4 times in a row. The RO said nice group!!!! Hahahahah....You could cover all 4 hits with a half dollar, but they missed the plate! Ugh!!!! I suck!!! Mad

My new pistol hates me! Mad

I'm taking the old one out next week.....that one has a "W" under it's belt. Razz

Stovy,
I see the same thing all the time. What causes it is that after the first shot you tighten your grip and the shots go lower. What I did to eliminate it is that I go for the top of the plates instead of the center. It will bring all your shots up to the plates.
The tightening of your grip is instinctual - you will find it hard to correct in the rush of competition but you can easily train yourself to aim to a higher point on the second and following shots.
Try it in practice or in a combat training. It worked for me.

Good point. Been trying just that. Double-taps are hard for me with .45. Been trying to hold over on the second shot. And a little higher for plate racks. It does work. I also made a 4" swinger for first-shot from holster timing and plate practice. It's itty-bitty!

Looks Good!
I like small targets, you have to train yourself to hit them.

Thanks boys....I call that one the "aspirin"...cuz that's what it looks like from 15y!

Going out now, do a little test as I modified my load last night.

A smidgen less powder, from 5.2 +/- gr. of W231 (under a 230gr CPRN) to 4.9 +/-(+/- means I'm using a progressive press with a sliding disc measure, so there's a slight variation here and there).

Right now I'm 9-10% over major power factor. Not a huge thing but I don't need to be that hot.

With this new load I should be right on the edge @ 168+ Power Factor...less recoil = faster recovery. And your gun lasts longer!

Got 3rd today w/ the new gun. Cool Rained like hell! Mad

practiscore.com/results/new/27941

BTW- know anyone with a Novak or similar front sight that has the .080" rod in it? Use a shotgun replacement F/O rod. WAY easier to find and use. 300+ rounds on this one so far. Pop's even in the rain with muzzle smudge on it.

Congrats, stovey! Can't help with the front sight.

Well done Stovey...you have achieved mate.

Now, are you looking for a fibre optic stick or are you passing on the info that a shottie fibre optic will fit the Novak sight mate? I sorta feel you are passing on the info. I have about four or five fibre optic sticks that are for my shottie...love 'em.

[Fixed]...sorry if that was confusing.

Thanks for the kudos!

Hey gang- been busy at the shop, remodeling the place. Aint been competing much. Took two months off! Fark!

Decided this month was the month to start again. Got "New Slabs" out, prepped him up, did some dry fire and mag swap practice at home....match was the next morning, Feb. 2, 2017.

Got top 1911, 1st in my Division (Single Stack, "D", Senior), 3rd Overall against some pretty scary, hi-cap guns. I put my head down and at the BEEP! just mowed stuff over, kept the sight pic tight, had a really firm grip and just slapped the crap outa that trigger running like a wildman stuffing mags in the old war horse as fast as I could. It was AWESOME. First real "W" for the new gun. Still not one hiccup. Gota love a Colt.

Upkeep- Coming up on 2k rounds now. Got another new recoil spring put in last night- went from 14# to 15# (14# was a tic weak for my PF, my math error- recoil/re-battery action is more balanced now with the 15# in there, it's a minor fine point but I can feel the difference). I change all the springs every 1000 rounds (so should you!), run a shock-buf and clean it every outing (takes 10 mins for pete's sake). Do the same? You'll get some serious life out these 1911's, I sure have. "Old Slabs" has over 50k (stopped counting and tossed the score card) through it. Loose as a goose and still sings like a bird.

Shot a match again today, first since the above- not sure about the results, didn't do as good as my mental calculator thinks, and a squad mate told me I got 4th Overall. Won one stage Overall (confirmed) with some other good results, but they show me 6th Overall, 3rd 1911. Meh- who cares! Here's the fun thing- it was CLOSE fun today between me and 3 others in my Division that live close to me. THAT, was serious fun. If anyone is even a bit curious about USPSA shooting, ping me. It's SO addicting and so much fun. We get new shooters all the time. 99% get hooked. I'm ranked a "D", lowest on the pole, but I'm getting more consistent- make a boo-boo and I'm like a dog at a BBQ, there to scoop up that dropped burger and take off! And, I'm having the time of my life!

So anyways- that's what's up in the Land O' Stovey. Here's a pic of the score card from the 2nd. (names blotted to protect the innocent!)

Stovey, I love your attitude mate. Winning is nice, but at the end of the day the test is whether or not you enjoyed yourself, and you certainly seem to be doing that in spades mate. I've always said, when I no longer get enjoyment from simply squeezing the trigger it's time to look at giving the game away.

You get an instant return on your shot when you hit the steel mate...I get the same when shooting Clays. Soooo satisfying to see that little orange disk disappear in a cloud of smoke.
