I ended up with a new player on the camera and can't wait to see it. I have a fawn that looks just like a cute little stuffed animal. The top of it's back is barley as tall as it's mommies belly.

I think I forgot to download it from the camera. Right now we have some pretty serious winter weather slapping us around otherwise I would go check the cameras today. At times I can't see fifty yards through the snow.

Use bread crumbs to find your way home... wait, maybe you should use burnt toast crumbs - they show up better in the white snow. Smile

Ended up with over a foot of wet heavy sloppy snow! ick. It was a really nasty storm with all the snow and wind. I should be able to find all the deer beds where they waited the storm out.

Smoke Pole season opens on Saturday, woohoo. We ended up with close to 15 inches of snow Friday so the whole game has changed. There is so much snow handing on the trees and brush that branches are breaking off and 2 and 3 inch trees are bent all the way over. On the up side of things the bucks I had been catching on camera must have laid low during the rifle season because they are both still walking around.

Always good to have prospects. Hope you are in the right place at the right time.

You are looking good for the smoke pole season Wiersay. With all that snow around you should be able to track the movements of those bucks mate, and you will be able to let us know how the penthouse is in the cold.

Hell at this point I am pretty sure I will shoot the first decent thing to walk through. The penthouse is nice and snug but in a weird year like this I can't be too choosey. This is the first time I am hunting the muzzleloader season in this area so I don't know how many others hunt around there. We had rain/ snow mix yesterday so the snow is pretty crunchy right now. Most years I become more mobile with my smokepole moving extremely slow trying to outsmart the deer and catch them as they meander through the woods.

Getting ready to leave the stand yesterday and found this fella grazing. Just kept milling in the area and not giving me a shot. Well after 20 minutes or so I finally got a chance. Once the smoke cleared it was still on it's feet but not moving very fast, and soon tipped over. I was very surprised when I got over there and saw the ground shrinkage. I am pretty sure this is the fawn I got a pic of just a week or so ago. Absolutely no fat of this one. Pretty sure this is in the running for the smallest deer award.

A short nose is an indication of a fawn. Should be tasty.

My son broke down and sat in the Penthouse tonight, he really liked sitting in the warmth with the windows blocking the wind. As a bonus he shot a nice doe. After the show he had several deer that he couldn't see running around. This is his first deer with the smoke pole.

Nice job! Just curious about sitting up high like that, is it harder to judge your bullet placement? I'd think you'd at least want the deer to stand off quite a bit, but with the mussel loader they've gotta be within how close to be lethal? I've target shot with mine but never hunted with it, so I'm supposing 100 yd is about it, and since you're guessing the distance (unless you know landmark distances) then 100 yds is about as far as you want to judge it.
