So far they have surpassed my normal income for the month so I took out some savings to throw at the stock market. Looks like an amazing time to buy.

It interesting what sectors are popular and which to avoid. Energy, utilities, healthcare, consumer goods things like that. Lovely to have the time to sort through the trends.

You are right on the investment opportunities. The hardest hit industries are entertainment and travel. While I think this will be a LONG road to recovery, here are some stocks I'm considering:

DAL - Delta Airlines, severely depressed but will rebound quicker than other industries as travel needs come back

Boeing - Depressed from a double whammy of 777Max issues and lack of travel demands, are getting new orders and ramping up production right now.

Cinemark Theatres - severely depressed from lack of attendance. A bit more of a gamble as they could go through a bankruptcy if this goes on to long, but has alot more cash on hand than AMC theatres (its going to go under, no doubt).

F - Ford, stock is way down with lack of production, but is going to get that government money making ventilators until auto production kicks back in. Also give a dividend.

OIL - oil futures... oil is hitting historic lows. Futures even went negative today!!! Hit almost NEGATIVE $1.5, thats insane. Paying people to take oil,it wasn't all that long ago it was $150+ a barrel.

CCL - Carnival Cruise lines is also another thought, but it may take alot longer for them to come back than other industries.

Dallan this is from an e-mail I just got from my advisor;
The major indices swung to the downside, with the Dow falling more than 500 points. But this drop was mild in comparison to the plunge in crude oil prices. U.S. crude oil per barrel (for May contracts) tumbled more than 300% to negative $37.63 per barrel.

But for some reason gas isn't free?

The reality is the world is awash with oil and no one knows where to put it. As a result, the energy sector is taking a hit. Some of the big oil companies are holding up relatively well, but this is because of their big dividends. Dividend stocks continue to lead the market higher. Currently, the S&P 500 yields three times the 10-year Treasury. So, the stock market is a screaming buy right now. Any time the stock market takes a hit, dividend stocks will bid it right back up.

I'm currently invested in financial services, realestate, healthcare, industrials and consumer cyclical. All but 2 or 3 stocks I own have dividends. I only sold one stock when all hell broke loose so my portfolio is dismal looking right now but I'm confidant when everything turns I'll be in good shape.

A conservative buy look at a one year chart for MDC and ARES. My two latest buys and at decent low price, and now I'm gonna shut up.

good luck
Suz

just please please take care when playing on the stock market.....by all means dabble with SPARE funds and keep playing with that pool of dosh...I recall the crazy times of the 80s and the resulting crash....folks had done silly things and mortguaged all they owned to get cash to invest in the markets then overnight lost everything.... I hear today the banks here might get to change lending criteria again so folks wont need a 20% deposit when buying a home...the thing that has held me back for years.no deposit.....we still in holding pattern waiting for mortguage broker to do his magic and get us a loan to buy our first home......
its actually looking more promising now than it was when we put offer on house 2 months ago.
