well just tried something highly not recomended and loved results
found half dozen empty shot shells, primed them
added an old school 1 1/8th oz scoop of home rolled black powder..
carefully inserted a cut down to length but UNSLIT steel shot wad, poked 1 1/8th oz of #5 lead in and closed up the crimp....man its easy to do with progressive press even just using one station at time and manually chucking bits in...crimp came out pretty darn good

out to fireing range/deserted quarry

next to no recoil
HUGE cloud of smoke
all bits exited barrel that were meant to
patterned tighter than tight thing...maybe foot round at 25 yards
grin from ear to ear
did melt one case...mustve been sulphur lump in that spoonfull of powder

this is what I built the 45/70 for......that is pitiful smoke cloud be comparison

oh yeah, very dirty burning and shotgun needed hot water wash when got her home.

Many years of hard work and chemical wizardry went into the developement of smokeless powers to eliminate smoke and corrosion.
I assume s@#€s and giggles was achieved.

oh heck yes......so much giggles my ribs hurt......now to wait till opening weekend of duck shooting and slip some into mates shotty when his back is turned......will be even betterthan when put heavy kicking shells in mate short barreled rossi a few years back....and dont worry his gun was chambered for them.... will stop short of loading payload of confetti and glitter, that would be taking things too far.a washer and ribbon however????

You can make a more "smokeless" black powder for cartridges. It won't ignite well in cap-n-ball or at all well in flintlocks but it does make less smoke. You make it by leaving out the sulfur and slightly increasing the charcoal. The sulfur makes ignition easier but other than that the difference is in the smoke and smell.

well we drink very little over the weekend...guns put away before beerzies in evening.... we go to enjoy the day and company, any thing more than 2 ducks is a bonus...we normally get 30 or so.
having a laugh and taking the piss out of each other is what makes the weekend so special.....
