today my bro in law and I went out for a paddle looking for a duck,I managed to shoot 1 previously wounded bird and that was it for the day, we were on water by 9 and packed up at 4 in trying conditions...
I paddled around the lagoon 3 times trying to stir up birds for him to shoot,but they just werent playing ball today,nothing wrong with our decoy spread,we had grey teal (protected) sitting among them most of the day.
it struck me when I got home,neither of us is getting any younger,bro in law has fibrominalgia which is really stuffing him up big time,cant hold a job as one days work and stuffed for rest of week...I turned 50 last week....
I really dont want to look back on my life with regret from not doing the things I couldve done while my body was still able....
there are 3-4 older chaps,in 70s who regularly are out hunting and still carrying home carcasses,they are an inspiration for me...if I can still be out there hunting in my 70s I will be a happy man,in the mean time I better get cracking and keep climbing the hills and paddling that kayak while I can.... today I got caught out on open water when wind picked up,spent half n hour 'ferry gluiding" slowly sideways untill got into somewhat safer position before turning and bolting across waves then heading upwind back to safety,my shoulders surely know I had a workout.
hopefully I wont cramp up overnight and can get out of bed tomorrow.

UH OH...this doesn't bode well for me...I turned 70 a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I don't have to contend with massive mountains like Elvis does when out hunting, and I have a quad bike that will get me from A to B where I can sit and snipe or go for short walks to chase up game.

So long as we wake up on the right side of the dirt, all is good.

mate,those massive mountains are good to look at but I dont bother getting too seriously into them,plenty heaps easier animals on much flatter ground LOL. a quad bike would be useful on private land,my trusty nissan terrano gets me most places.

Vince, your name crossed my mind immediatly when I read Elvis's start... I'm very close too...
but I've been thinking very smart (I guess?) and ordered a Segway Fugleman, a side-by-side so my dog can sit next to me and I hope to drive more and walk less in the future. Pulling big game out of the "wildernes" is already costing me to much breath at the moment... so better safe than sorry...
and the difference between men and boys is the size of their toys...
