Can anyone tell me the latest Hogdgon Manual and if it's got the data for Nostler ballistic tip(Varmint) for a .243 Winchester.
Thanks in advance, Dave

Hi Dave,
The 2004 Annual Manual (magazine format) has the loads for the 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.
You will find the same load information on the Hodgdon website.
www.hodgdon.com/data/r...243win.php
The website is usually the most current load information but there is a 2006 Annual Manual available too.

Thanks for that Popgun, got both, but what I am looking for is the complete data for the 70gn Ballistic tip. Hogdgon only show 3 powders and because it's a newish (in UK) bullet, I obviously want the best data I can find. The main problem is that powder and bullet manufacturers can show a lot of difference between safe and max loads. I normally use Speer 70tnt, but over here, they are getting hard to find.

All the best for Xmas & a Happy New Year

The latest Hodgdon manual that I have is the 2006 Annual Manual shaped like a magazine. It lists the following powders for the 70gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.

Start Max
Varget 27.0 29.0

BL-C(2) 29.0 31.0

H335 25.0 27.5

H4895 26.0 28.0

Benchmark 26.0 29.0

H322 25.0 26.5

H4198 21.0 22.0

Copied from Page 72 in the manual.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Bergy, but I have the same manual and that load is surely for a 6mm PPC not a .243 Wichester, which has completely different loads. Pages 73/74 for .243 only show Speer 70gn, which I use at the moment

I did make a mistake when I said “Hogdgon only show 3 powders”, I meant that Nosler only show 3 powders and I would like to know if there are other powders that have been tested.

My giant mistake, sorry bout that. That's what I get for triple-checking to make sure I didn't give the wrong data. You're right, thought I had turned the page but didn't. Thanks for the catch.

Going to quadruple check next time.

Have you thought about calling Nosler? They have an 800 number listed on their homepage. Would be willing to call for you if it's too costly for you.

to avoid mistakes in data (I just needed to say that) you can call or Email Nosler, Sierra, and the powder manufacturer that you prefer.
Tell them the exact case, bullet, primer, gun and what you want out of the load. Sierra will give you a most accurate load, a highest velocity load or a mild or reduced load. They are as conservative as they feel they need to be to [protect themselves from "excess reloaders" so if they feel that you know the limits and how to recognize them they will givew you a load closer to the maximum than some guy who asks for the Hottest Load they have.
Powder manufacturers tend to be a bit conservative but will give you tested data at its maximum safe loads. Bullet manufacturers, other than Sierra, have never been much help in having load data on hand.
I wish you all the best in your search.
