It's only been fairly recently that Hodgdon has been making their own powders.

Hi Cal,
What powders do they manufacture? I have looked into their powders and most all come from foreign (non US) sources, ADI etc.

Winchester W-748 for .30-30 and Hogdon H4831SC for .30-06. They work good and I can't complain.

Hello popgun,

I'm not really sure, just going by what I've recently read. I know Hodgdon gets a lot of it from Australia and used to get a good bit of it from Scotland.
I read where they're they're making much of it themselves lately.

You know, I was just thinking. This may be the next government assault on the shooting fraternity. There's talk in Canada of limiting us to 5 pounds possession of gun powder. I couldn't get by on that small amount. Hell I'm reloading for 13 calibers now, and that's calls for a lot of variety. I don't know how true it is but supposedly several states are also considering this. One thing for certain, they seem determined not to leave us in peace. Best wishes.

Hey Cal,
I was surfing for powder information and came across this .pdf document that shows what powders are made in the us and which ones are foreign. As for Hodgdon, you can find most all of their powders listed under foreign makers or you can see like numbers etc. Interesting read.

I wonder if Hodgdon's popularity isn't related to it generally being easier to meter thasn IMR? I started years ago with IMR and simply have stayed with it for the most part, but admittedly it can be a pain to meter, especially powders like IMR4064, and IMR4850. They're all stick powders.
To each his own I guess. Best wishes.

I guess if the truth be known I use IMR because that's what I started wiyh and have never seen a need to change. I used to associate Remington with IMR, and in those days I thought Remington could do no wrong. I'm a lot smarter now but still use the IMR. Best wishes.
