Try James Lamb Free's book Training Your Retriever.
It is the Bible of the old time trainer.
My Dad gave me this book when I first decided to start retriever training, and I have used James Lamb Free's training methods for over 30yrs now.
His training takes time and plenty of patience.
It is not the shock collar do it quick type of training, but going from preschool to grade school etc.
If you follow his book, without shortcuts, in the end, you will have a hunting partner that is happy to satisfy you, very obedient, hard charging, and loyal.

Give me an e-mail for more information.

Good Luck,

Eric Marleau

I want to train them to drive an elk or deer to me.

The obedience training tips that he teaches are worth the price of the book alone.
The rest of his book is all water and land retrieving.

Eric
