Got dusted with #6 shot at long range whan some city-bred small game hunters put up a box barrage when a pheasant took flight. Take care...

Same as Bushy.....my fieldcraft was a little better than their weapon handling skills. The sound of rounds "cracking" around your ears is something you never...and I mean NEVER....forget.

However, like One Eight Nine Five Ess Ess and Tracker, I am extremely careful who accompanies me when hunting. The slightest doubt about their firearm handling skills and they don't go with me.

You and I seem to have a lot in common Bushy....wonder if we are related in some way. Very Happy Laughing Laughing

I did not get hit but my car did. Two .22 caliber holes in the outer shell of the door. About midnight just off of Papin St. in St. Louis around 10 years ago.

Yes, several times. Once with a 45ACP, once with a 22 Rifle and a couple of bird field incidents. I have also had numerous glancing blows and a few rifle and handgun bullet jackets stick into me. I spent 20 plus years as a range master, so you will pick up a stray here and there if you are working with ractive targets.

Shot at yes.
Hit no, except for a piece of 9mm jacket out of an MP5 in the face coming back off a steel target 40yds away.

Knock on wood, I've never been on the receiving end. Seen lots of gunshot victims though. Some were pretty amazing. I saw a guy that was shot five times in the chest with a 38, he was hitchhiking and a guy stopped like he was going to give him a ride and shot him instead. When I got to the hospital he was doing fine not one of the bullets hit anything vital. They released him two hours later.

I've had a number of close calls but didn't get hit. In situations like that it's my belief that it's better to give than to receive.

The .38 Special has been long renowned as one of the most useless manstoppers ever. I can't think of a Police Department that didn't get rid of it for the 9mm as soon as it was possible.

The 38 Special and smaller calibres (.38, .32, .25 and .22) are the calibres you should never shoot someone with....you just might hit him and make him real cranky....unless of course you are lucky enough to hit something EXTREMELY vital, and even then I think I'd be using the "shoot and scoot" method. Very Happy Laughing Laughing

Trace Adkins (the singer) was shot through the heart and both lungs by his wife with a .38 and lived to tell about it. That said, the .38 is a viable choice for a defensive round with a good hollow point bullet especially in a +P loading. Most of its bad reputation comes from lead round nose and FMJ loadings. I am a police officer and investigated a shooting a couple months back, individual was shot with a .45 Colt revolver with lead round nose. Bullet entered base of neck and exited shoulder. Exit wound was tiny, physician could not believe that it was a .45 caliber wound. Slow moving handgun rounds with a round nose profile sort of "wedge" their way through tissue without causing much damage, leaving a relatively small hole in their wake, unless bone is contacted to expand the projectile.
