You guys are a hoot! Laughing

kbis,
I hope those critters got the message. I checked my dad's place for a charger this weekend... no luck but I'm still on the lookout.

BTW< If they come back I’ll gladly lend you my squirrel rifle… Wink

Sorry to disapoint everyone, but still no beavers, but I will keep checking.
As to making Pampers out of them, that would be OK as long as they did not include the large paddle at the end of the beaver. I can just hear the other parents as you drop your kid off at daycare and they are saying "check out the tail on that kid" :).
Coyotehunter I like your squirrel gun. It would certainly get rid of the beavers and my dock and dam and any thing else in the area. I bet that thing is hard to get into a deer stand :).
I must say this beaver experience has shown me the versatility of the shotgun. Not only is it good for beavers and turtles but also beehives. On one of my outings I discovered a bunch of bee's setting up camp on the bank of my pond. I replaced my 00 buck with bird shot (buck is to expensive) and fired 2 quick rounds into the hive and then ran like h*ll. Next day same thing and third day the same. On the fourth day no bee's. I also learned that you should aim your escape vehicle (in my case my Gator) in the direction you wish to flee.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to use it to get rid of fire ants.
I will keep you guys posted on the beavers.
Ken

Hi

All is quiet on the western front. No beavers, it would be nice to get some rain though. The lake and pond are getting smaller by the day. Hurricane Rita was supposed to drop 20" of rain per the weather people, we got 1.75" and lots of people from the south part of Texas. All the fish are getting to know each other since they don't have much room to swim around :).
At least things are getting back to normal, we can now get gas and food when we want it and we have power again.
Thanks for asking about my little friends.
Ken

kbis: If you don't want them to flood your land, you should talk to some of the "old timers" and ask them how to put in beaver pipes. Basically just a couple pieces of corrigated pipe that extend into the pond or river on both sides (from the centre) so they build over it but the water continues to flow. Not sure if a certain length or diameter is required.

Aimsmall Thanks, I shall ask around. Fortunatley I have not had any problems since I shot the one last year. We have been in drought up until a few weeks ago so there has not been much water for them to play with. One good thing has come from the shortage of water, my lake was down almost 5 foot and exposed the 4X4's that hold up my dock. I had been wondering why the dock was so shakey and discovered that the beavers had eaten one of the 4X4's in two. It is now fixed and we have had rain, so I guess it is time for the beavers again.
BTW, wecome to the forum.

kbis, I can relate to your beaver problem. I've got a concrete spillway on my pond that drives the beavers crazy. When when the water rises and goes over the spillway they go nuts. The spillway is too big for them to dam up so instead they started drilling holes in my levy. I guess the morans figured if they couldn't dam it up they'ed just get rid of the pond. I ended up putting in about ten loads of rock on both sides of the levy. No more drilling. Last month at aboiut 7:30 in the morning one goes swimming by about 70 yards from the back porch. I was siiting there with the .223 and put a serious drilling on him. Haven't seen anymore since I nailed big boy. Hopefully they all moved to your place. LOL!!
My newest problem is the coons. The lil' bast#@$s are eating eating my fish food Mad . As they say, alls fair in love and war and eating a man's fish food is war. I made hats out of four of them last weekend.
Good luck with the beavers.

Heritage1550 Are you sure you don't have Nutria Rats and not beavers or both Sad ? My neighbor (up stream had both), the rats were putting holes in the levy and the beavers were chewing up the woods and building cabins in the middle of the lake. He just about went broke buying rock to stop the rats and was going to blow up the cabins. I was supposed to be invited to see the fire works but I think he forgot. So far the only furry thing this year in my lake has been one of my dogs.
Have had no problems with coons but since it is warm (at least this week) I know the snakes will be out. I am scared to death to turn over my John Boat, God only knows whats living under there. I may have my wife turn it over while I stand there with a shotgun (she is not near as scared of snakes as I am).
Where in East Texas are you so I can direct the beavers your way Smile ?

kbis, I'm not too far from you. I'm in Woodville. I've never seen any nutrias around so I don't think it's one of them. If it is the best defense against one of those rats is to sic a coonass on them. Hell, those boys will eat anything!!! A nutria is a delicacy to them. LOL!!!

Evil or Very Mad NUTRIA did I hear NUTRIA???? It's getting to be that time of year out here, it also appears that they are coming out a bit early this year so I have to load up a few. I have a sweet 125gr JHP that I am loading for my .35 Rem Contender! It outta get-er-dun, checked the crono on it and it's hitting 2475fps at 15'. Checked it out on a couple of water jugs and the results were "Showering"! Should also take care of the Cottonmouths, Copperheads & Rattlers. Oh the JOY of SPRINGTIME! Evil Devil

talking about Muskrats,
I seen one for my first time the other night at work.
I work at a powerplant in colorado.
I left the lunchroom door open to the outside. it was about 9:30 or 10:30 pm.
while getting readings on the turbines. I seen something moveing around. it was a Muskrats walking slowly right in the middle of the control room. lol.
it was quiet , slow and did not seem afraid . I put down a squar trash can and walked it right in. although it realy did not like it much when I turned it up and it found it was captured. lol. wow, those little critters have some big teeth, and a mouth that can open up . I let it back out side the door and it slowly walked away. lol.

that little critter look exactly like a over grown mouse with a thicker tail.

they cuase no problems around the plant so we leave them alone. well except for the ones that dont know what they are. those people I guess think they are some kindo fo mutated mouse and have to get rid of it. lol.

I dont see any reason to kill them.
