Yeah and if Eric Holder is confirmed as Attorney General, the proverbial sh-t will really hit the fan for us.
Quote:: |
A-G Nominee Eric Holder is Anti-Second Amendment
January 27th, 2009 by Matthew Vadum
President Obama’s nominee for U.S. attorney general, Eric Holder, is hostile to gun rights, notes the Independent Institute’s Stephen P. Halbrook. Halbrook is the author of The Founder’s Second Amendment: Origins of the Right to Bear Arms.
Halbrook testified at Holder’s confirmation hearing earlier this month that Holder’s “denial that law-abiding citizens have a right to keep and bear arms for lawful purposes is exemplified by his support for draconian proposal to criminalize, with severe felony penalties, exercise of that constitutional right.”
While Holder was a senior Justice Department official in the Clinton administration, the DOJ backed bureaucratic rules that would have buried lawful gun owners and sellers under a mountain of red tape.
Halbrook points out that Holder participated in a pro-gun control amicus curiae brief in the landmark case of District of Columbia v. Heller. In the case last year the Supreme Court struck down the District’s oppressive handgun ban, finding that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to bear arms.
Despite his hostility to a basic civil right, Holder has reportedly secured the support of Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania), an endorsement that probably clears the way for his approval by the Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow. |
We really need to fight this one. The Gun Owners of America has a pre written letter, and it needs to go out to all of your federal representatives, Congress and Senate.
The fight is really heating up. We need everyone's help. In may family I make sure that Miz Dee, daughters Victoria, and Natalie, and son-in-laws all send the same letters. If they want anything when I die, they must conform.

"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."--James Madison

WE need defeat of H.R 45 and passage of H.R.17. An Illinois dumocrap is behind 45 and a Maryland Republican is sponsoring 17. Need I say more?

Registration inevitably leads to restriction & on to confiscation.
The UK is one of many examples that prove this.
I have a piece of advice: IF registration comes to pass, then refuse to conform, as it's vital to the gun ban lobby's agenda.

Well guys...welcome to what we suffer here in Australia. Note my comments:
H.R. 45 Proposed Firearm Law
You will have to carry a photo ID firearms license.
We got it
A training class is required to be licensed.
We got it
Disclosure of your storage method is required for license.
We got it...plus periodic inspections, sometimes without warning
A thumb print is required for license.
We don't got this one....YET.
Every sale recorded by the federal government.
We got it...well, State Govt recorded
If you move, and don't tell the Attorney General within 60 days, you are a criminal.
We got it...we have to inform the Police
If a firearm is stolen and you don't report it, you are a criminal.
We got it. Also, you can, and most likely will be, charged with Insecurity of a Firearm.
There will be no grandfathered firearms. If you do not obtain a license and report every firearm you currently own, you are a criminal.
We got it
There will be a license fee and a fee for the "services" provided at purchase time.
We got it...two fees, plus your have to apply for permission to purchase another firearm...for a fee of course
Licenses must be renewed every 5 years.
We got it
Good Luck guys...it's started. Once it gets in, there is no going back...they will not repeal any laws...the antis will drag it through every Court they possibly can to drag it out to the point where any win by firearms owners will be so watered down it may as well not exist. It will get to the point where those representing the Firearms Owners will have to compromise in order to get anything...compromise is just one of the "injuries" in the "death by a thousand cuts" methods used by the antis and those in Govt who support them...or want their vote.
Looking at the H.R. 45 Proposed Firearm Law...it shows how much the antis around the world are combining forces. I said a year or more ago that the antis in Australia and the antis in the USA are in cahoots...the above is a pretty good indication that it is true.
Don't let them do to you what they have done to us. At least you have the Constitution to "protect" you.
Cheers, Vince

This bill is a "trial balloon" to see what can be compromised and what is strenuously opposed. The bill will never make it to the floor for a vote, however, from the process one can expect other more moderate bills that will nibble bit by bit toward the goal of a much higher level of control.
A person that is a strict observer of the Constitution could view such legislation as traitorous and its proponents, therefore, as traitors. In a society based on said document, such traitors should be tried and, if convicted, executed, preferably, by a firing squad. I would volunteer for such a squad.
Our representatives and senators need to know our reaction to such garbage legislation. They need to know that we will actively work to defeat anyone that supports such legislation. Countries such as Australia, England and Canada have shown us the results of government controls and I wonder why their citizens ever let that level of intrusion on their lives occur? Time to draw some lines in the sand, don't you think?

As my colonial cousin , Vince, has stated, as well in Oz, we in the UK have already most of this type of legislation. No thumbprint or training is enforceable at the moment BUT we have also to show "good reason" for applying for a firearm (Not shotgun).
Get your lobbying going, to protect your rights, it's no good thinking it will be ok and doing nothing, you can guarantee the anti's will be moving into top gear and any apathy by US gun owners will cause the loss for everyone.

Have it.

Have it. Its a safety training/common sense test however.
Disclosure of your storage method is required for license.
Somewhat have it, needs to meet the requirements and unless you own more then 10 firearms or restricted and grandfathered prohibited firearms they still need a warrant to enter.
A thumb print is required for license.
Don't have it.
Every sale recorded by the federal government.
Have it.
If you move, and don't tell the Attorney General within 60 days, you are a criminal.
Have it, wouldn't say a criminal but its frowned apon.
If a firearm is stolen and you don't report it, you are a criminal.
Have it.
There will be no grandfathered firearms. If you do not obtain a license and report every firearm you currently own, you are a criminal.
Have it execpt for flint locks and firearms in "uncommon" (mainly American 45 caliber variants) made before 1897 or some such
There will be a license fee and a fee for the "services" provided at purchase time.
Thankfully dropped by the Conservative Government
Licenses must be renewed every 5 years.
Have it |

Time to cowboy up with the NRA, gang.
I just received the NRA's newest sweatshirt that on the front has NRA, and big and bold on the back has the "Armed with pride" emblem.
There isn't a day that goes by where I don't wear some NRA cloths or my Life Member hat when out and about.
Either back the NRA and let them do the work, or we all are in trouble.
If anybody has any problems with the NRA, you better get over them real quick, because without them leading the way for us, it's all over.

I have to agree Eric. What are the words to that song from a ways back....ah yes...
United we stand; divided we fall;
And if our backs should ever be against the wall;
We'll be together; together you and I.
Without an organisation like the NRA you will have many smaller splinter type groups all doing what they think is the best for their group.
Everybody pulling for the right reasons, but usually in different directions...working against one another.
A single STRONG body like the NRA will be your biggest asset in the fight to come.
Cheers, Vince

Every American gun owner should belong to the NRA!! I have been for many years and do not always agree, but out numbers give us clout. I still don't fully understand how we lost this one!!!!!!! By the way, I do thnk we should eliminate the electoral college.

Eliminate the Electoral College Vint, and we have a Country like Canada, where the East and Left coasts control Washington, and President Obama just took over the reigns from President Gore.
We don't want to go in that direction.
