30mpg is alittle much none the less I'm told to expect it in the mid teens by the few I know with Diesel F-250s.

The thing is Chambered, I want this truck to last me till 2025 (15 years), so I didn't want to fix myself now for a disappointment down the road. So I thought about everything and increased the numbers abit. Smile

A 3/4 ton is a nice set up but a lot of the time it is over kill, diesels can be very particular critters. I used to pull a 24 foot travel trailer with a Ford 302, had no problems maintaining 65 -70 at about 10 - 12 mpg not the most recommended set up but I put a lot of miles on that truck. Engine never gave me any trouble but she finally rusted out. I have had a couple Chevy's with the 5.4 but they always dropped the mileage drastically with any trailer small or big. They seemed under powered with larger trailers. This time I tried a Dodge with the 5.7 Hemi. I am impressed so far, I only get about 18 on the hwy but I still pull 13-14 mpg with a loaded trailer. It has a lot of gitty up and go. I was running an 07 Chevy when I bought my wife an 08 Dodge with the Hemi, I liked it enough to buy myself one. The Dodge isn't as smooth of a ride but it doesn't squat as much with a load on. they all had their good points and bad points it is just which good points over ride the bad. I just couldn't bring myself to do the diesel thing though. Good luck with your new ride. Let us know how it is.

Fancy stuff those information things in vechicals, my dads Ford has one.

Still I think its a "option", and because I am cheap, its one I am not paying for. Laughing

YES - I have found the DIC to be pretty close to spot on compared to miles driven/fuel purchased when I go for more than 40 miles.

Dimitri - They tell you things you did not know that you did not know! Confused

Yes I'd rather be blissfully unaware of the fuel consumption then know exactly how much I am spending to go from A to B. Laughing

I figure since its a diesel and I've always been told to keep the tank filled to prevent condensation (especially in the bigger trucks) over night, I'll just top it off every day and not worry about my fuel consumption. Till my wallet takes a hit I'd imagine. Very Happy

Surprised to see yours is spot on !!!
Everyone I know of shows at least 1 mpg better than it should. Mines 1.5off.
A co-worker did some performance modifications to his and ended up almost 5 off on his.
(won $10.00 on that bet)
DIC is nothing more than a onboard computer that calculates a estimated figure. Doing it the old fashion way gives the actual figure !!!

D, good idea, if you run that diesel out of fuel I’ll bet you never do it again!!!

Very Happy Hey Dimitri-You want to make that powerstroke last for a long time?
www.gulfcoastfilters.com/ I've had one of their filters on my powerstroke since 40k miles(now its at 199k miles)and the oil is very clean even after it's been driven 10k miles on the same oil!Keep a fuel stabilizer in your fuel all year long to keep out moisture and to keep down the bacteria and sludge crap that some diesel fuels cause.Clean filters and fluids will do alot to keep that diesel running a long time. One more important thing to remember-diesel's like a warm engine before you put them under load(plug it in if it's below 40 deg.f,allow it warm up on the guage, and when you shut it down after pulling aload-let it cool down about 3-5 minutes to scrub the heat from the turbo!Or run a pyrometer to watch your EGT's.I know that some people out ther will say that this stuff is not necessary-they get to pay for their engines-not mine!If you get onto a site called "powerstroke registry "they have alot of trick stuff for your rig,and in your northern climes I would look into the prospect of a diesel powered block heater,I'm going to get one cause I just moved up another 700' in elevation. They are computerized and are settable to many time standards. Also if your vehicle sits for long periods-weeks ,then look into a cigarrette lighter/powerport solar panel charger.I got 10(that's right-ten)years out of my original OEM batteries and this vehicle has never been in a garage! Very Happy

The Gulf Coast Filters are added to work along side of the standard filters it seems. Wonder what Ford would say about that while the truck is still under warranty. Confused
