I'm looking at purchasing another pistol, probably a 1911 or that style. I like the feel and looks of the Spriingfield's. But since Tarus bought Beretta's pistols I also like the feel of the Model 100 since it is the same pistol I have been shooting in the Army for years. The Tarus 1911 is also a nice gun. I am not sure I want to go all the way to a Kimber since this is just a fun gun. There are lots of 1911's out there making it a very hard choice. I was thinking 45 but the Model 100 only comes in 9mm or 40. Your input will help me alot. Confused Confused

The best place to buy from is Dawson Precision !!! Last I knew the price was $925.00. Having trouble with their site, will check again later.

You can not beat this pistol for the price !!!

For fun I have the Taurus 1911, as do a few friends. No complaints at all from any of them. I gave just under $500 for it a couple years ago. If you're considering guns other than 1911s take a look at the Springfield XDs. I'm also fond of my Ruger SR9, which is my current carry gun.

Any suggestions?

DougB, 1911 pistols can be had with an ambidextrous safety. Flip kits are also available for the mag release to accommodate left handed shooters.

The Springfield XD has a ambidextrous mag release in it already and does not have a functional safety.

The slide on most pistols will unlock, with a loaded mag in them, with a rearward tug of the slide. No need to actually depress the slide release.

If you like Glocks, I don’t, they will release the slide when a loaded mag is inserted with enough oomph. (yes they’re designed that way)

I’m pretty sure that their mag release can be flipped. (check on it)

Another great pistol to look at is the Smith & Wesson M&P’s !!!
Ambidextrous slide stop and reversible mag release from the factory.

If I didn’t already have a couple of XD’s I’d be looking hard at these !!!

DougB...The Colt 1911 pictured above with the Kimber UCC II has a competition (oversized) magazine release that can be operated with little effort by your left index finger. It, also, has an amidextrous safety.

With very little practice it works quite well for lefties...

Point of procedure here... that is a slide lock not a slide release. If you use it as a slide release it will wear as you move the lock under the pressure of the recoil spring pushing against it and not lock when you need it to. To drop a slide on a 1911 pull back on the slide and let it fly.

I have lost and won matches by tenths of a second !!! Your way I would have lost them all !!!

My STI has 10,000+ rounds through it to date without any hiccups.
If you’re wearing out the slide release prematurely a little Breakfree or FP-10 will work wonders !!!

I have confered with both of my manuals, Kimber UCC II and Colt. Are we talking about the "Slide Stop" here?
