No!!! Rules of the game require me to retain any mag with ammo in it, thus taking more time to properly stow the mag before re-engaging. (It’s not allowed to hit the ground)
Another note on re-loads, (before someone suggest it) you are also not allowed to do what’s referred to as a speed re-load.
This is when the mag is empty and a round is left in the chamber (not allowing the gun to go to slide lock) and you proceed with a mag change.
In this case that mag would also need to be stowed before re-engaging.

Chambered,
Which game are you playing? IPSC IDPA? I am not questioning the rules because they are what they are. In PPC courses they require you to shoot to slide lock to level the field for revolvers (and for a safety factor too) but if you are competing in a tactical or defensive type combat course why do you care about magazine retention? We have three gun matches and tactical pistol matches at my local club and it is all devoted to getting hits on target as fast as possible through any safe means which includes speed reloads tactical reloads and dropping empty mags as you are moving and reloading between shooting boxes.

I shoot IDPA!!! You are correct the rules are the rules they’re meant to be pushed not broken!!!
For those not familiar with IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association)
IDPA is a game based upon concealed carry and tactics that are utilized in life like self defense scenarios.
The rules themselves are based upon accepted teachings of force on force training.

And not as realistic as people think it is...Unless you are part of a "SWAT" team. Even then I'm not so sure...

Well if you want to make it simple and always have one in the chamber when reloading, count to 7 and use these magazines:
Wilson Combats 47D magazines with 8 rounds instead of the standard 7 rounds.

My Taurus holds 8. I use Chip McCormick power mags. Some 1911's hold 7. Some others only 6. Springfield has one that's High-cap, it holds 10. Way too much confusion in a fire fight.
Handloader; thanks for the info on the Commander size coming out soon I believe that's the 4" model, correct? Taurus pistols have come a long way. At first the autos were junk so they "went back to the drawing board" and re-engineered them to be a high quality, very dependable gun. Sales on their 1911's have gone through the roof.

Realistic or not it’s a great way to learn how to handle an unwanted situation!!!
But I’ll be the first to admit the way I approach a COF isn’t going to necessarily be the way I’d approach the same situation in real life.
What it does do is get you thinking about how to handle the situation in a real crisis.
When I was running matches at a local indoor range I set up no light and low light COF’s that made use of a tactical flash lights.(something everyone should have next to their gun)
I can’t even to begin to explain how many guys/gals walked out of there with a different perspective on things !!!

Oh great...!! A flash light, to show where I'm at. It's bad enough with the laser. I see quite well in the dark (dark is my friend) and if you enter my house after midnight (when I go to bed) your not supposed to be there and I'll have to call the sheriff to send someone out that can draw chalk lines on rugs...

I've trained with lamps. It's nice to verify and blind the threat and see it raise it's hands in front of it's face just before ya shoot 'em off.
Might keep one from shooting the dog in the dark, too.
Nice option, plus I'm pretty useless in the dark w/o one.
But- light works both ways, as pointed out.

Depends on the type of dog. If you have one that's built streamlined with a mouth full of razors ( doberman ), then having the dog inside is a good thing. I had one before I went into the Army. He didn't start barking right away. He mostly snarled and snapped his teeth. You couldn't even hear him walk through the house.
Cat, totaly agree!!!
Tactical light on gun... I'm with you on that Bushy. I have good night vision with or without glasses. I would grab my Glock, it's got night sights.
