Can I have a few opinions good or bad of the Shepard Scopes. I am looking at putting one on my Tikka T3 7mm-08 for long range goats and possibly a second on my .223 for longer range varmint shooting in New Zealand. The company is obviously well endowed with their own info but independant info usually rocks.

Very interesting scopes.

Shepard Scope Website

I haven't heard much about them. I couldn't find anyone else on-line that sold them nor any customer reviews.

If you change the spelling to Shepherd rifle scopes than google, you will find lots of info. They have been around for awhile, but I don't know anyone that actually has one. Very Happy

I got it, thanks for the correction. Shepherd - I didn't like what I saw in the feedback from this site.

Sniper Country Forum

If you are shooting a rifle with some recoil, eye relief is a must. Also, I think there are better reticle out there for long range shooting. There quickly becomes a point where errors in range estimating like this are greater than the trajectory of the bullet can handle. Deer chest depth may average 18" but they can vary from 12" on up. That all contributes to ranging errors that a good laser range finder can eliminate.

For the price you pay for them, I'd consider at Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x 50 with a mil-dot reticle. You can get them on-line for under $600.

There is also some good discussion in this topic.

I have one of the Shepherd scopes, it is a 6 X 18 X 40 with an adjustable obj. If you read the instructions and do as they say I have found this scope to be very effective. I have this mounted on a Savage model 12 in a 22-250 with a stainless fluted, heavy barrel. I really like the way it shoots--this a bench gun that I use on prairie dogs.

I have 3 Shepherd scopes and they all work great. One is on a .338 Win. Mag, one on a .300 Weatherby and the last is on a .7mm Rem. Mag. never lost zero and optics are very clear. Cabelas used to carry them but it looks like they have been discontinued now. you can get them directly from Sheperd ( I have done this in the past ) if you run into any problems or have any concerns with the Scopes they will help you with them if you call them. In my opinion they are great Scopes.
