My Beeman R-1 17 Cal is good for cottentail rabbits out to about 30 yards. Iv had it for about 20 years mostly to get rid of unwonted little critters. I have a pump 22 Cal Benjiman Mdl 312 bolt acton single shot made sometime between 1935 and mid 40s that I put new parts into last year. I have two great grand sons . The oldest is five years old so its time to start him with the pump gun.

Handles super well and is a joy to tote. Not too light or heavy.
Super-duper fun. In fact, I ran 300+ rounds through it last night and puffed up a big phone book into confetti I used as a backstop in my living rooom (it's 37' from balcony to front door).
This would make a great first break-barrel/pellet rifle (bbl is rifled). It shoots way better than I can hold.
Sights are 2-color fiber-optic. Kinda coarse and cheezy- but, they work. Looks like the rear might get knocked off before it break's, or not.
Cocking effort is easy, trigger actually breaks- stiffish and I'd guess 6# or so?, wide shoe, not the best feel or cleanest take-up etc. But, get past that and...it's fun! Barrel locks up tight too, takes a smack to get it open.
It is quiet. Makes more of a 'clunk' than anything in the open. Stealthy!
Perfect for small critters and back-yard plinkin'.
Dove-tailed reciever with a round stop hole for ring-stop screws.

Gonna try it again at 20m and see if I can get a group using my Merit device to sharpen up the sights. Plus I can always glass it if I want.
Sure aint no wodd-stocked hunter but, I like it! Fun and affordable way for almost everyone to enjoy one decent shooter.
RMCOil is not available anywhere, that I could find. So for Crosman springers of this type the factory guy said RWS and Gamo ***chamber*** lubes work as required.
If I had a huge yard then a full-size hunter would be the go-to, but, I don't and I snipe overgrown ravines and small backyards.
I really like this thing.
Took 4 shots to get on target then the others were the first rounds down the tube. It will one-hole all day long if you can hold that.

#1 : 7.4gr spire, 7.9gr HP Premier (my fault for string) slow-fire (cross-legged) and PBA (cross-legged) 3/30 seconds.

Two very fine classics and I bet they are bute's, and, good job gettin' the yunker started at it too!

Yesterday I got a pigeon from an honest 95 feet (rested, dead calm) w/ the 7.4gr Crosman spire pt. First shot was high as I held over, second I held a hair over dead on and *pap*, done.

370 plus rounds through it and it keeps getting better. After 200 rounds and all the factory spooge was out of the chamber I dry-swabbed the bore and put a drop of RWS Chamber lube in and one on the o-ring, waited a few and rolled the gun around to try and coat everything, shot a few and reswabbed and it's shooting clean, still makes one tiny hole @ 10m if I hold right. The FO sights truly pop in any outdoor light, too.

This little rifle is freakin' incredible. If ya get one for your youth, better get two as I guarantee he or she won't be happy with you wearing it out for them.

I am extremely pleased with this product, far exceeded my expectations.
