Not too bad Slim......soooo, just a little load development and you will be ok.

Thanks for the encouragement, Vince. No load development here, I don't reload shotgun shells/slugs. Not sure I want to sort this one out plus the gun took a couple of "bites" out of my hand from the edges on the back of the receiver during recoil.

I have done a little load development with slugs...I cast Lee key drive 1oz slugs for my smooth bore O/U 12g.

If it is biting you mate, there is a small sharp edge there somewhere...search the bugger out and radius the offending part. Should fix it mate.

Look upon it as a challenge mate...you can sort it without any problems mate.

Cheers, Vince

I've been looking to get a 12 ga auto and its always easier to get acceptance from the wife if I sell one gun before I get another.

It was with the 20 ga bolt action smoothbore below but only with Brenneke slugs. These slugs are still stable at 100 yards and leave rifling tooth marks when they cleanly punch through the paper. Now, I can't get that good a grouping at 50 yards. Not sure if the camo paint job or getting the lead out of the barrel caused the change but I am not going to take the time to find out.

After reviewing the thread I noticed you shortened the barrel and just put the mount on.

What sights were used when you got the better groups ???

If the gun shot better before shortening the barrel my bet would be the choke played a role in the accuracy change.

The only difference the before and after was the paint job, sight (red-dot before, Leupold 2.5x scout scope now), and lead-free (unfouled) barrel. I shortened the barrel a long time ago when I turned it into a slug gun. I stopped using the red-dot because when I went to sight-in this month, the parallax was very noticable. Its been over 5 years since I shot it. Not sure if the red-dot had this problem back then but it was creating significant aiming errors at 50 yards.

I ended up getting a new Slug Gun Very Happy . I went and shot the 835 and the gun just doesn't fit me well . I can't get comfortable shooting it . It wasn't gonna set the world on fire with accuracy either . Tried 4 different slugs and the best group was 2.7 " at 75 yards witch don't get me wrong is plenty good enough for 100 yards or less. But I'm just not happy with the feel. So I went and got a H@R Ultra Light Slug Hunter I use to have one. It was the heavier model. This one has synthetic stock and the barrel isn't as heavy . It weighs in at 5 1/4 lbs , But the frame of the gun is smaller and it fits me well. So I mounted the scope ( after I took the paint off ) and got a few different box's of slugs ( Again) and hopefully will get to the range soon ( maybe tomorrow ) and see how it does. Here's a pic

I reckon it will perform fairly well Joe...just a matter of which slug it likes best mate.

Recoil pad...oh well, I 'spose a 12g does have a little bit of recoil, but personally, I've never found it excessive if you stick to 2 3/4" cartridges and 32 gram loads...a 1 oz slug will do pretty much everything you ask of it.

Cheers, Vince

How's it goin bud Howdy We posted at the same time Very Happy . I like the 2 3/4 slugs I have always found them to be more accurate then the 3 " . The slugs Im trying are 300grain Hornady SST/ 400 gain Win platinum/ Fed 3/4 ounce ( with the Barnes expander) It gets rather pricy Shocked

I also use Lee's key mold in 1oz and very happy with it, just wish the wheel weight supply was better. Sad

Nice looking gun Joe.

Kick like a mule! I've shot a light 12 ga with slugs before and it knocked the glasses off my face!
