Interesting Bushy, last fall a friend spotted a cougar in one of his barns and spooked the living daylights out of him. He called the dnr and they came out and verified it was indeed a cougar because of his/her tracks in the soft dirt in the barn.

I think I'd consider a trail cam outside your barn to see what is actually prowling around mate.

I would imagine a horse is capable if looking after itself against a big cat, but it would certainly spook them...possibility of injuries.
