Through a series of good fortune events, I came into a bit of extra cash. I went to a local gun shop to look around. After a long time scanning the used gun racks, I came across a mint condition used Colt Mark IV Series 80 in .45 ACP. I field stripped the pistol and it is in 100 percent condition. The hang tag said $600 and the shop has a policy of discounting used guns after 30 days in the shop. This pistol qualified for some haggle room and we settled on $500 and the gun is now on layaway.

I just went to the three prominent online auction sites for a price check on Colt Mark IV Series 80 handguns. The bid prices ranged from around $700 to over $1,250. I could not believe the numbers, but they are accurate. That is why I avoid gun auction sites on line. Looks like I will continue to shop the local gun shops. All the best...

You're fortunate. Where I live, gun store prices are quite out of line. I've gotten some great deals on one auction site but, you're right, a lot of things on those sites are very overpriced.

I avoid them because all I could do is drool..

There is an Aussie gun auction site but the (few) guns there are all overpriced and not in the least attractive.

Auctions overseas are a lot better in numbers and interest values but,
there is no way no how to get them into Australia without blowing the prices up in multiples.
On top of that, the red tape and waiting period would simply break heart..

Great find! So good, you motivate me to start shopping.

Good buy. Congrats!

I bought one used gun online, one, and broke my policy of not doing same. It was a misrepresented mess. I sent it back and got a refund and sweated it out till my account was credited.

Never again.

Too many good guns on racks or in safes you can see or shoot in person to take that risk, not to mention inflated prices, shipping etc.

I agree with you, Gil and avoid the online auction sites except when I need a few good laughs. There is a national sports retailer that has a "gun library" site online with prices that will curl your hair. Take care...

I have bought many guns on AuctionArms over the last two years, and done fairly well. All the other sites I have looked at have high prices in general, and it's rare to find a bargain.

The most important reason to buy from your local gun shop - to keep them in business. I never buy guns from the big chains (Cabelas, etc.) for this reason. It's worth a couple extra bucks to make sure the convenience of buying ammo and supplies locally doesn't disappear.

There are few good prices on GunsAmerica.com but thet do occaisionally pop up. Today is listed a S&W Model 19-5 in .357 Mag for $350
It looks to be in great shape. If anyone is inteested, the listing number is 955658185
Not a great bargain, but a very reasonable price.

Here is a possible opportunity for a GREAT buy. There is only one day left on this auction, and the price has only risen to $275 so far.
The best strategy is to wait until the last 5 minutes of the auction - then enter the highest bid you are willing to pay. The system automatically raises your bid in increments just high enough to beat the other bidders. (For example, I have bid $580 for a rifle that I won for $449.)

This item is a Ruger Blackhawk (my favorite revolvers) New Model, Stainless Steel .357 mag with a 6 1/2" barrel in excellent condition.
AuctionArms #9792083

There is only 1 day left on this auction, and the price has only risen to $275
(There have been some great prices recently on Ruger Blackhawks.)

There is also an interesting Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine with a 7 1/2" barrel - AuctionArms #9790719

I especially like AuctionArms.com for a few reasons:
Money goes to support the NRA
The site has a very powerful search engine that saves lots of time
There is a function to list search phrases that sends you an e-mail when auctions containing the phrase(s) pop up.

Anyway, thought I'd give you guys a heads-up.

I sell on Gunbroker.com, Guns America and I DO NOT RIP people off! Dont let the actions of one seller who misrepresents his or her guns leave a bad taste in your mouth.
The key to getting a good deal is to ask ALOT of questions and check the sellers past sales feed back. ASk for more pictures and know all you can about the firearm your wanting to buy.

I have friends that have done very well at the auctions..............The key to it is knowledge !!!
