Are the fired cases just sticking in the chamber? Does it do the same thing with factory ammo?

i think it is just sticking in the chamber but i dont know why. and i dont know about the factory ammo as i have never used any in this rifle since i got it. and there doesent seem to be anything imprinted on the case after it is fired that indicates something is holding it in.

Is this a load you've been shooting and has just now started doing this ?

Is 2839 a velocity you shot over a chronograph or just what a book says ?

By what little info I see I'm leaning towards a pressure issue !!!
How do the primers look and are you getting a shiny spot on the case head that looks like something has scraped it ?

this is a load tha i was useing in my other rifle, but i redused it and worked my way up for this one cuz of the differance in rifles. for the velocity goes i thought i had run the over a chronograph but apparently i had not as i just checked 5 over it with a average of 3021.4 hi of 3037 and lo of 3005
the pressure being too high does make sense. as for the primers i usually load them till the primer just starts to flow into the firing pin hole and then back it off .5-1 gr powder. and i purposly make a mark with a scribe on my bolt so i can watch for how much it is imprinting. and yes a few case heads do have a faint shiny spot but its only a few of them.

If your getting that kind of average with BL-C(2) I'm definitely betting on a pressure issue !!!

The crimp your applying could have something to do with it.

could be bullet is touching the rifling as well. check oal again. this can also cause high pressure.

By crimping your creating more resistance which in turn lets the pressure raise more before the bullet is released from the case.

Whenever you have to much pressure the brass flows into the chamber walls filling any voids that your unable to actually see. The brass also looses it's elasticity and does not shrink back as it does normally. This will most likely cause a hard extraction because the brass is clinging to the chamber walls.

You can stop crimping, back off on the powder or a combination of both to get things back under control.
My suggestion if you want the crimp is to back off the powder and work back up to a reasonable level.
One last note.....just because the bullet has a crimp groove doesn't mean you have to crimp them.

ok thanks. i normally dont use the crimp groove on the bullets because i seat the bullet out too far for that. but thanks for the info. i'll try that and see what happens tomorrow.

If he's crimping in the crimp groove I seriously doubt the bullet is touching the rifling !!!

ok so i dropped the charge to 45gr bl-c2 and started going up. the cases started sticking at 46gr and a few at 45.5gr so i dropped it to 45.3gr and no more problems with that. velocity averaged @ 2815fps with a SD of 14.41. a little slower than i wanted, but at least it works now. Smile

i also tryed switching powders to ramshot tac and got the velocity i want and no cases sticking. (3039 fps SD 14.12)

thanks again. Very Happy

p.s. this is all with 150gr fmj-bt

Any time.........Glad to hear things worked out for you !!!

Varget is another powder you might want to try. It seems to me it's capable of getting close to the 3,000 mark.
