I too would be pissed, but here's the kicker... he drove 55 miles round trip to the store and the 3 boxes is what the clerk gave him to purchase!! I have no doubt the clerk was a young kid, but who ever stocks the shelves with factory ammo should have known or at least come up on the computer when ringing up the items that they were recalled!!

Who would do that...that's an easy question to answer Stovey...the red-headed pimply faced kid in the stock room who more likely than not wouldn't know sh1t from clay...but that's not his fault mate, he's just packing the mail order boxes with stock from the shelves. Now the guy who stocks the shelves and the Stock Manager SHOULD have been aware of the recall...no excuses there.

I had a problem with some 30.30 Winchester brass I purchased some years ago. Two cases in the pack of 100 had big chunks out of the mouth of the case. I rang Winchester here in Australia to let them know about the problem, not because I wanted them replaced, but so they were aware. They offered me all sorts of things to compensate. I said, no, it's all good...there were extra bullets in that last pack of 100 (about 3 or 4) I bought so I figured we were square. The guy at Winchester really appreciated my attitude, but insisted he send something, so I left it up to him. I don't have a shortage of 30.30 cases right now.

I believe customer attitude goes a long way to maintaining good relations with a company, and I certainly don't have any complaints about Winchester.

Copy that, as mentioned earlier- it's what ya do post boo-boo that counts. If someone seems sincere in helping me when I have a problem, I usually forget about the problem and they've earned repeat business. Had a large outfitter send me a junk gun once- it was a pile. Totaly not as advertised and wasn't damaged in shipping, it was beat and I wondered how the hell could they ship that thing? They got me back as a customer because of their service and the extra miles they went to help me make the problem go away.

Just an update:

My shooting buddy received his ammo on Friday along with the gift certificate and promptly handed the UPS guy a box with the prepaid sticker to ship the recalled ammo to Winchester.

As a side note, despite 5 e-mails and 3 telephone calls, no one from Bass Pro ever called him back.
