I have a double barrel, side by side, 2 triggers, rabbit eared 20 ga shotgun that I cant find any info on. I'll post pics if neccessary. The only brand I can find on it is "Vulcan arms" on the reciever. None of the local gun shops know anything about it. My Dad used it as a boy to hunt with. That was back in the 1940's. I dont need a value, just would like to find out about the gun. Any thoughts on where to look on the web? Or does anybody here know?

Vulcan Arms Co which is a "Trade Brand Name" was used on shotguns made before World War 2 and made by the Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich,CT. I also have seen 2 post ww2 "Hawthorn Vulcan" shotguns possibly made for Montgomery Ward. Crescent operated from 1893 to 1930's. There doesn't seem to be any source to pinpoint dates of manufacture by serial numbers. Crescent was a subsidiary of H&D Folsom Sporting Goods, New York. Many of their products were sold through Folsom's retail outlets, but Folsom was also a large wholesale dealer and many Crescent guns were marked with the names or trademarks of other retail chains and even independent hardware stores.

I've seen a lot of "Vulcan" and "Crescent" shotguns over the years and many are in pretty good shape. The owners usually want to know what they are worth and think that because they are old they are worth a lot of money. I always have to break it to them that they are just another in a long line of what we today would call "generic" shotguns.
