A friend ask me to go with him to the gun show this morning. I enjoy his company so went just for fun. Got there 30 minutes before the doors opened. Parking lot was 3/4 full already. They had a second entrance staged for the crowd. Maybe 200 ahead of us. Not too bad but we were outside the building but temps above freezing. Two guys in front of us had never owned a gun but didn't want to miss the change. Line soon went around the convention center. As soon as they opened we were inside in no time. First table I went to had regular prices on their Glock mags (hurray) but when I asked was told it was double what was marked. AR mags were everywhere but cheapest was $45. Had to take a double take on AR rifles. Every price tag I saw was over $2000. One lower and it was $500. Then I saw a bit of a crowd over at a corner table. People were picking up mags. Steel 20-rounders for $15. 30-rounders for $20. Salesman would dump an armful on the table and before he could bring the next load they were gone. I grabbed a couple. His entire stock was gone in 45 min. Left 1.5 hours after it opened and line was still several hundred long. Picked up a tree on the way home and hung Christmas lights this afternoon.

I can't get over the number of guns that have sold out. Talk about your end of year sales. Great for clearing out supplies so the new models can come out.

As a friend and I were discussing the other day, the Obama administration has had one big success in improving the economy. The firearms industry is BOOMING!

According to prices on GunBroker, the AR stripped lower I have had laying around, has at least tripled in price. I ordered my lower parts kit early in December from Palmetto, but haven't seen it yet. My original plans were to build the lower during the holidays. Maybe the kit will show up today.

Interesting thing I just noticed, I was on YouTube and cruising around looking for something interesting (couldn't sleep, TV sux) and I did a search with the term, gun sales. Yeah yeah gun sales are up, but here's the thing that bothers me, the media is so in-tune to saying gun sales skyrocket after a particular violent murder situation. Not that I haven't noticed this before, but it really is so ignorant to believe that sales of guns are spurred by the murders going on. What IS spurred by the murders going on is the government's knee-jerk reaction about guns killing people, instead of a better knee-jerk about keeping their eye on the low-life causing the problems.

And then of course the Pres. comes on and says we have to have stricter gun laws and then we take a trip to the store because we wanna be grandfathered in, in case we can't own a particular gun anymore.

This guy that just murdered some firemen by ambush, had killed before, been in prison for it, and apparently had an arsenal on hand. What gets press time is that he had a Bushmaster "just like the one used at the Sandy Hook murders" (not sure it was used, but). Why are ex-cons able to get guns? black market, friends, illegal sales of whatever type but this guy had murdered before, he went to prison and got out, nobody had their eye on him? What's with that? He was able to amass an arsenal without anybody noticing? That's what scares me more. It's not the gun it's the criminal in charge of it.

Our laws on crime have been diminished so much by being overloaded with freaks that should be in mental institutions and early release programs where good behaviour is paramount to the crime committed. Maybe we should have Islamic rule in prison and chop off a hand or stone them till they're veggies, then think about release. Anyway it's interesting how the media equates gun sales and ARs, gun sales and massacres, and not criminal law, ex-cons and deranged people, early release programs, lack of parole supervision on ex-cons and on and on. The have an agenda of gun control no matter what, and well of course enticing the readership and sensationalism is a real money maker too. Very sad stuff...

To me there is a pretty simple logical "test" to consider. If I could wave a magic wand and eliminate ALL guns we would still have crime? On the other hand, if I waved that magic wand and eliminated all CRIMINALS would guns still be a "problem"?

Ammo availability is following suit. I was just looking online for 7.62x39 and there's very little to be found. Just higher priced stuff still available.
