Nice shooting Aloys, over here the darn hawks get the most rabbits as-well as yotes.

Suz, my Hela was tired on that moment. A dog often starts a little bit resembling to its boss, so she is a little bit too fat... and I was tired too Smile

S.J., last Friday we went for fallow deer and afterwards I prepared about 30 l of what dogs like best for dinner: lung, kidneys, heart, ... cut into little pieces (as goulash), cooked in water for 2-3 hours, then add rice and cook for another 20 minutes till everything is rather stiff. Cool down and watch your fingers when you feed the dogs...

And here hawks are not the problem, but foxes are. And legally we get little opportunities to kill foxes, still hope that 1 day somebody in our government starts realizing what foxes are doing to our nature, but now they are still the holy cows of the greenies. It's very hard to fight foxes when you're only allowed to hunt them during the day, not at night and also only a few months every year.

And I see I forgot to mention the duck.

And Stovey: Thursday evening I go to wabbity country... but the forcast gives rain... hope they are wrong.

EDIT: forgot to thank Vince for posting the pictures. When you think about the distances they made till you all got the chance to see them...

Hey Stovey...I got another email from Aloys with another pic mate...

Vince,

As promised for the Stovey-soap you'll find enclosed some pictures. Just chose a nice one and don't upset Stovey too much.

And alltough the weatherforcast was not so nice, a dangerous storm would visit our country with lots of wind and high seawaterlevel, I only missed about 4 or 5 rabbits and still got 18 in the pocket. Here we don't have problems with the seawaterlevel, but shooting an airrifle in such windy conditions sure asks for lots of goodluck Smile
But I have to admit that I shot 3 rabbits in the spine because they didn't want to show their head, that will teach them not to show their a.. to me again.
And now I can say I've tried 3 different sizes of pellets on rabbits: at first the .25 which I didn't like because of the curved traject, then the .177 both at 12 fpe and higher energy and now the .22. Well I would recommend the .22 with a 15,89 grains pellet at 885 fps anytime for hunting this kind of small game. I sure love my cheap BSA Scorpion, with its Weihrauch silenser it's a real silent killer. I have to try it on dove very soon too.

Have fun,

Aloys

Aloys, how many different recipes do you have for rabbit?

the best recipe that always works without complaints: I clean them and give them away! It would amaze you how rabbits are liked these days when V.H.S., myxomatosis and foxes take more than rabbits could carry. And such an airrifle also makes people being more demanding. There is a big difference in a rabbit shot in the head with an airrifle or shot with a cal. 12 steelload, colouring it green faster than you could clean it.

But the little ones I keep to myself. My wife likes them when I prepare them in the tajine with honey, cinnamon and other stuff. I could try and translate that recipe when you want it. (but maybe I better wait till Stovey's neighbour gives him a rabbit?)

And I have to admit, I do have some problems to stay focused when I'm hunting or shooting. But in an effort to keep Stovey sharp (or tease him a little?), I myself also keep my mind focused to get a bigger bag. Most of the times the ones I miss are the ones that seem too easy, something nobody would miss and so forgetting to put the cross on the mark while pulling the trigger. I don't have such a problem when you only see 1 eye of a rabbit at 50 m, then the challenge makes you clear your mind.

Received another email from Aloys today...

Vince,

I think I'm improving...
or is it my BSA Scorpion T10 that realy starts to like the JSB Exact JUMBO HEAVY (.22"/5,52mm - 18,13 gr/1,175 g)?
But I'm afraid the wabbits don't share this feelings...

I believe I only missed 2 this time.

It's about time that nature starts up the wabbit-factory again, before we run out of species Smile

Have fun.

Aloys

I just like to take a picture of Hela, so she might feel more willingly... I'm trying to get her pregnant. I always have female dogs and I always try to breed once... She already trained the male: each time she shows her teeth, her boyfriend is laying down...
but it's not a must, so nature may act as it wants, I'll take it as it comes.

Maybe I should stop making pictures? Long time no see Stovey...

Aloys, please keep the pictures coming. With that many hares, you should take them at every angle. I started to work on my .17 pellet gun. The light pellets were very accurate (I could take an eye out at 25 yards) but very noisy because the the supersonic crack. The heavier ones weren't so accurate. I've bought some more to try. Compared to your harvest, I haven't seen that many rabbits total in the last 5 years.

Well, this time the story gets a surplus...
we double counted the harvest, each time 22 in total. But when I cleaned them and was deviding them under friends, 1 is missing. I counted and recounted several times: only 21 left. Now none of my dogs would dare to steal my rabbits... I even looked in the car... only 3 things remain: or 1 rabbit was actualy an actor and played death till the coast was clear, or some creature took it, or Stovey found a way to beam over a rabbit... the last 2 explanations making me very cureous...

but to come straight with myself: only 21 wabbits left.
And I already tried to recount on the pictures, what makes me think that 1 disappeared during the night from Thursday to Friday.
