Well I haven't done this in 22 years & nor did I have quite as much accumulated "stuff" the last time. Shocked
Having always rented in the past, I took advantage of the current housing market here & bought a place using a loan that's costing only a third of what I was paying in rent & for a nicer place too.
I guess finally putting down some real roots at 56 years old feels pretty good, though the work involved is somewhat exhausting - I reckon I'll be pushed to finish emptying the rented place by the time my notice period's up on Easter Monday. Very Happy

Good oh.. I am a believer in owning.
Much rather have a mortgage than a landlord.

Good stuff Mike...it's not easy making the decision to purchase at our age, but it is worthwhile mate. As Gelan said "Much rather have a mortgage than a landlord."

Good luck mate.

Having never heard of Whitehaven, Cumbria, UK, I did a Google search and from the street level views it looks like a beautiful place to live.

Yep, congratulations.

But, here's a thought Dee and I have owned 6 houses over our years and at age 50 when we bought the one in Chester I swore that it was the house I would die in. So last October at age 64 we moved again. So, Pslinger be careful.

Thanks for the pictures BBlue, it's a pretty area alright. The ocean I can live with, the fog can stay home tho. I'm about 70 miles give or take from the ocean to the west of me and get plenty of ocean generated fog and rain. The thing is if you live near it, the weather is moderated by it. That can be good or bad depending on the inland weather, but I think generally it keeps the highs and lows at a more tolerable level. Seen my share of sun and heat too.

How close to the ocean are you EMike?

That's actually the Irish Sea coast. Head 70 miles west & you hit Ireland.
My fishing tackle shop's just about dead centre in the right side of the aerial photo.
The harbour is the one John Paul Jones attacked during the War of Independence.
George Washington's maternal grandmother is buried in the churchyard in the town centre.
My new home is about three miles directly east, in a place called Cleator Moor.

How did they get the photos without rain? Wink

I just moved after 21 years in the same place.
It is amazing how much stuff you accumulate eh.

I love history that is awsome. You own a fishing tackle shop? I'll have questions for you.
