Hello Again!

I've been out of the country for a few weeks, but I'm home again and eager to get back to work on this Winchester Model 70 I just bought. Like most Model 70's, the trigger is way too stiff since I am trying to build a long-range "bull's eye" gun. I originally bought the rifle so I could get better at shooting out past 800 yards, and so after putting a good bipod on it and breaking in the barrel, my next order of business is to install a good trigger. I'm looking for something under $125, and I'd like it to break at a pound or so. I really would like a set trigger that I could use at three pounds without setting, and then set it to break at 8 or 9 ounces. That way, I'd have a great bench gun as well as something I could carry should the need or desire arise. I feel it's important to say here that I am not building a proper bench rifle, but something I can take to the range primarily for long range work. The rifle I'm using is a Winchester Model 70 Coyote in .300 WSM. It still has the factory stock on it (I like the way it feels), and I think I'm going to stay with a 10X mil-dot scope for now. It's making my rangefinding infinitely easier and more accurate, so I'll "dance with the one that brung me," so to speak.

Still, the trigger job is a tough one for me, never having done much with any trigger on any rifle I own. If anyone here has any experience with aftermarket triggers, especially set triggers, please advise. I appreciate it in advance, and look forward to the input.

Cool The Win Model 70 has one of the most simple triggers ever used. There are quite a few replacements available and I have included a couple in the links below. One of the best on the market is the JARD. It can be ordered basically by the Ounce. Look at the link. Most are under your $125.00 limit and the 16oz is $120.00 plus shipping, to me well worth the investment. Also the last link is the AGI Video on Smithing the m70 trigger. Take a look but again IMO the JARD cannot be beat.

I second the vote for Jard! Although I have a Jewel trigger in a Remington and it work great too.
