I was loading some .30-06 rounds today and stuck the first case in the resizing die. I quickly grabbed the RCBS Stuck Case Remover tool. It has been some years since I stuck a case in a resizing die and I forgot how to use it. After a bit of trial and error I got things sorted out, removed the stuck case and reloaded the rest of the .30-06 cases. It is humbling to trip over your own feet in this manner, but it happens. Take care. All the best...
Gil

Been there Gil. The first time I tried Hornady One Shot I didn't wait long enough to try sizing some .220 Swifts. Got one stuck GOOD. I rig a case remover up with a wrench socket and some washers, etc. I bought a tool immediately afterwards.

Gil, at least you were prepared. It is rather a scary situation when this happens for a beginner. What lube were you using?

I, too , have been there.

I assembled my own remover using tools I already had. They are still in the Erinmore tin.

slimjim,

I was using RCBS resizing lube on a pad and had rolled the cases back and forth several times. The case appeared to be properly lubed and was tight going into the die. When I lowered the press ram the case rim came off in the shell holder. All the best...

I now use Imperial wax and have never had an issue with it. It was recommended to me after I had a stuck case with a spray lube.

Ah, the voice of experience mate. Adapt and overcome.

On the strength of this thread, I am going to start sniffing around for a ex mil ruptured cartridge case extractor...a great piece of kit that is easy to use and is perfect for the job.

I’ve never had a case get stuck in a die, and as I use Imperial Sizing Wax now I don’t anticipate it happening...but then again there is always Murphy’s Law. burr

I actually have a complete RCBS stuck case removal kit but in this instance it was 200 miles away, so some allthread, nuts & an errant piece of bar were pressed into use.
I was surprised how solidly stuck the damn' case was too.

I had a stuck bullet in my AR one. I filled the barrel with water, capped the openings, and stuck it in the freezer.

I remember that one slimjim.....kept us all entertained for days....
lee lube is the cause of many a headache ....I hate the crap with a vengence, yet have great faith in all thier other products... for me its good old vasoline on fingertips for body of case and quick dip in powdered graphite in jar lid of #7 shot for case necks.

That's funny Elvis, 'cause I love the Lee lube. I had one stuck case because I didn't put enough on.

When I load .223, I mix it with rubbing alcohol in a pump bottle and spray the cases, that are on an old cookie sheet, and then resize.

Got my first ever case stuck in a die the other night. I bought the RCBS removal kit years ago hoping to never need it. I got the case out of the die body (after a little head scratchin' and cussin'), but the expander was still inside the case. I ended up unscrewing the expander and cutting the case open with a Dremel to get it out.

I used the RCBS lube pad for years with no problems. Friend hooked me up with some pure lanolin. Stuff works great.

Oh. And a comment on One Shot. I tried it and had cases that indicated that they were about to get stuck in my dies. I did, however, found out that One Shot makes a good anti-squeek lube for rocking chairs and recliners.
