Crackshot: My $.02 is that camo may be necessary for some things--ducks and Turkeys, that may have some sort of color vision, (but what about the years and years that guys wore their overalls and red checkered jackets, and STILL took lots of ducks?

Maybe the ducks are smarter nowadays?) but in most other instances, plain old khaki or Olive Drab clothing will blend well with the background. Even the red checked jacket will break up the human outline. But camo looks HIGH TECH and cool, no? (Dare I say "tactical"?) Confused

Once I was photographing the Mojave Air Races from outside the fence, wearing a brown and black check shirt, and brown cords, and my kids got really upset that they couldn't find me, right in front of them , within 25 yards of the car.

Vince, has got it right. Break any of the rules and you are busted. I have been within feet of people and they not know I was there. Damm near got peed on one time. Almost broke cover on that one. Luckily he turned right , not left to let go. Laughing

Cammo has it's place. Most comercial patterns are too dark and look like a dark blob. The silohette and movement will give you up in a heartbeat. Now for practical hunting ranges and the wearing of orange.....well it (camo) is sort of defeated from get go. Archers and close range stuff.... anything that will hide your movements will be of help.

Me, personally, I like ground blinds. It can be a simple brush screen or one of those fancy little tents. Both serve the same purpose, hide you and your movements from your quarry.

I agree with HuntAway! I like ground blinds, home built or purchased from a store. I pack them into an area and leave them set up for a spell before the hunt begins so the critters are used to its presence.

I am with mikekuzura. I grew up in Wyoming and have stalked antelope in the open crawling on my belly, had elk almost walk over me during the morning constitutional, hunted turkey while sitting with my back against a rock, deer, deer and more deer...never any camoflauge. If it works for you, use it, if not, spend that money on a spa weekend for the wife so you can head out for an extra weekend of hunting!!!!!
