Load: 30-06 Sprg
165grn Nosler Solid Base Ballistic-tip Boattail
Remington new case only neck sized and chamferred/deburred
Federal #210m Bench Rest primer
H4350 @54.5grn
Cartrige overall length: 3.310"

Rifle: Tikka T3 Light Stainless LH 30-06 Sprg

Target distance 50 meters, about 54.5 yards (wasn't able to go out to 100 meters, about 109 yards, because it was a military base range and it wasn't cleared out to that distance during the weekdays).
My measurement from center left hole to center right hole is 3/16" which would be 3/8" at 100 meters. I know I still have some refining to do as there were problems with some of my other loads, but this is very promising.

Awesome group Jeep. Looks like you're all set. How far off of the rifling do you have your depth set? You said that there were problems with some of the loads??? Now all you need to do is a little fine tuning with your loads. Go like maybe 2 or 3 10th's of a grain on either side of load #3 and play a little with your depth.

Well, Congratulations..

That is why most of us reloads. It is not necessarily for economy but it is a lot more to get a better result to fit our specific guns.

If you change the target to 100 or 200 meters or shoot at different kind of weather (rainy, cloudy, snowy, hot etc), you will see that there should be a varying result. Some loads may group better at a specific distance. temperature, air pressure etc.
The fun part is to find the compromise for the lot and still get result like yours.

Now, I got to go back to my reloading bench and press out some more variation for my Whisper. Smile

Awesome Jeep, well done mate. Welcome to the fun and satisfying world of reloading. Very Happy Very Happy

All you have to do now is test this load at 100m and fine tune if necessary mate. Very Happy Very Happy

Fine job. Jeep. You has one of very good guns. But yuo must know there is 11" rifling. (Sako/Tikka use it in the new guns cal. 308 and 30-06). I like .308/12"- and 30-06/10" rifling. Bullets over 200gr maybe are no suitable or may make keyholes. Hope, You understand my language. Kauko

Very nice group, especially for a first set of handloads. They don't often come together that nicely the first time out, but we all hit the nail on the head from time to time. I got similar results from my 7MM with it's first load, but I think it took 7 or 8 loads to get my 270 dialed in.

KW: I know about the 1:11" twist rate on my rifle. That's why I chose this particular load. Because 30-06 Sprg rifles with 1:11" twiat work and are designed specifically to work with 165grn loads goin about 2700fps. I also like that it shoots well with the 44.5grn load instead of the recommended 57.5grn load because it's easier on the shoulder and back. I had a spinal fusion surgery in March so my back is pretty sore and I wanted I light all around rifle and load I could take anywhere and was very accurate and hopefully minimum recoil.

I plan on loading up a set just like I did before except this time with 3 shots each in .1 grn intervals from 44.1grn to 44.9grn. I'll start off shooting the middle load (44.5grn) then go down one or two, then up one or two until I find the right load, then I can salvage the rest of the rounds and save ammo/money.

Jeep: Told ya so! Good load! Very Happy

P.S. Don't worry too much about barrel twist. any standard twist offered will stabilize the usual suspects---the 150, 165 and 180 gr. bullets, and probably others, too. That is all you will really need for 90% of the game on the planet.

Nice group. I had a similar group at 100 yards with my modes 70 30-06 using 165 Sierra Game King BT's and 57.5 grains of IMR 4350. Velocity was a tad over 2900 FPS. Keep up the good work.

Ain't that the truth Dallan. I'm sure that "Murphy" had a hand in deciding that 5 shot groups are the best for checking accuracy. Very Happy Very Happy Laughing Laughing
