HOLY MESSY BROWN STUFF.........

Bugs immune to Repel???

We use it throughout the spring turkey season here, and rarely experience a failure.

The little ones are staying away, but the Huge ones with tiger stripes on their legs and wings just dive right in and bite the dickens out of us.

Gidday Crackshot. Not familiar with Repel, but the most effective insect repellant I have found here in Australia is one called Bushman. Most important part of it though is a chemical called Deet. This stuff does the job nicely with anything that bites. I have used it in the tropical rainforest in Far Northern Australia and it works a treat. It is also exported all over the world, so you no doubt could find it in the USA.

Bushman Insect Repellent

We have another one out here called RID. Smells a bit girly, but it too is great.....and it works for many hours and can be used on the whole family....even babies.

Cheers, Vince

Thanks Vince, I will check it out. Repel has 29 or 30% deet and is failing miserably.

Sorry to hear about the skeeters Crackshot.
Up here in Minnesota, it is the first year that I can remember that the little pests aren't around in Sept.
Just spent the weekend at home hunting in Ely with no bugs either.
I remember when a guy could get Deet at darn near 90%, but the do gooders wanted to protect our health and ordered the percentage of Deet lowered.
I'd like to put those people in the woods with a bunch of skeeters and have them tell me that the old Deet is still bad for us. Very Happy

Two weeks ago we had a real hard freeze.
It's the first time that my tomato plants died. I was lucky and picked the remaining tomato's the night before.
Now it's warm, but no bugs. Smile
Hope that yours die off soon so you can go hunting.
I won't hunt too much when the little biters are out either.

Eric

Crackshot,

I dug out my Turkey vest to check...

The Repel we've been using is 98.11% DEET
1.89% Other "stuff"

The only place I've found it is Gander Mountain, and it's only available in a non-aerosol.

I believe the laws were changed to limit the DEET content in aerosol containers, although I could be wrong.

I must admit to bemusement at the thought of a "season" for rabbits & squirrels(greys - reds are protected).
Over here, every day is "kill a bunny" day & the same goes for grey squirrels.

For the most part, all our hunting is less regulated than in the US, though the firearms themselves are a different matter.... Sad

Crackshot ,
You might look at Flower of Sulfur
or Sevin garden powder. Work great on chigger and mesquitoes but read the warning on the Sevin. Or buck shot!! Mad Very Happy
Happy hunting
