Romney just quit but I do love his statement. A nice big finger in the eye of O'Bama and Jillary.

No question that we have to vote for McCain.
The alternative is a "stinkin" liberal.

McCain wasn't my first choice, but, he is a good choice that will assure a strong position on national security. That is my main concern. While Maverick John has done some rather questionable things, it may take a person of his experience and grit to keep the nation on course.

The worse thing is to avoid or boycott the election because we didn't get a staunch conservative to the presidential race. Obama and Hillary are so contrary to the principles of this country, IMO, that I will actively campaign for McCain. Readings his autobiography has been helpful in understanding how he has tried to reach a more moderate audience. I recommend it as an insightful read.

This is the one issue that he takes a stand on that I like best. In fact McCain is the only candidate that is against gun control legislation. That alone gets my vote.

www.johnmccain.com/Inf...7d2fbd.htm

" Protecting Second Amendment Rights

John McCain believes that the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms is a fundamental, individual Constitutional right that we have a sacred duty to protect. We have a responsibility to ensure that criminals who violate the law are prosecuted to the fullest, rather than restricting the rights of law abiding citizens. Gun control is a proven failure in fighting crime. Law abiding citizens should not be asked to give up their rights because of criminals - criminals who ignore gun control laws anyway.

Gun Manufacturer Liability

John McCain opposes backdoor attempts to restrict Second Amendment rights by holding gun manufacturers liable for crimes committed by third parties using a firearm, and has voted to protect gun manufacturers from such inappropriate liability aimed at bankrupting the entire gun industry.

"Neither justice nor domestic peace are served by holding the innocent responsible for the acts of the criminal."

-Senator John McCain

Assault Weapons

John McCain opposes restrictions on so-called "assault rifles" and voted consistently against such bans. Most recently he opposed an amendment to extend a ban on 19 specific firearms, and others with similar characteristics.

Importation of High Capacity Magazines

John McCain opposes bans on the importation of certain types of ammunition magazines and has voted against such limitations.

Gun Locks

John McCain believes that every firearms owner has a responsibility to learn how to safely use and store the firearm they have chosen, whether for target shooting, hunting, or personal protection. He has supported legislation requiring gun manufacturers to include gun safety devices such as trigger locks in product packaging.

Banning Ammunition

John McCain believes that banning ammunition is just another way to undermine Second Amendment rights. He voted against an amendment that would have banned many of the most commonly used hunting cartridges on the spurious grounds that they were "armor-piercing."

DC Personal Protection

As part of John McCain's defense of Second Amendment rights, he cosponsored legislation to lift a ban on the law abiding citizens of the District of Columbia from exercising their Constitutional right to bear arms.

Criminal Background Checks

John McCain supports instant criminal background checks to help prohibit criminals from buying firearms and has voted to ensure they are conducted thoroughly, efficiently, and without infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens.

Background Checks at Gun Shows

At a time when some were trying to shut down gun shows in the name of fighting crime, John McCain tried to preserve gun shows by standardizing sales procedures. Federal law requires licensed firearm sellers at gun shows to do an instant criminal background check on purchasers while private firearm sellers at gun shows do not have to conduct such a check. John McCain introduced legislation that would require an instant criminal background check for all sales at gun shows and believes that such checks must be conducted quickly to ensure that unnecessary delays do not effectively block transactions.

The Firearm Purchase Waiting Period

John McCain has opposed "waiting periods" for law abiding citizen's purchase of firearms.

The confiscation of firearms after an emergency

John McCain opposes the confiscation of firearms from private citizens, particularly during times of crisis or emergency. He voted in favor of an amendment sponsored by Senator David Vitter prohibiting such confiscation.

Stiffer Penalties for Criminals who use a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime

John McCain believes in strict, mandatory penalties for criminals who use a firearm in the commission of a crime or illegally possess a firearm. Enforcing the current laws on the books is the best way to deter crime. "

We in AZ have know McCain for many many years, he is a good man. However, I wish he would change his tune on the illegals. AZ is overrun with them. They literally trash the desert coming across the border. And once here they jam the hospitals and welfare offices. They drive without licenses or insurance they always hit and run sending our insurance rates through the roof. We need a well defended border fence so when we send the 12 million felons back to Mexico they can't get back. Here in Phoenix the last three (almost 4) cops were killed were by illegals. They are bringing their kidnapping and home invasion skills north of the border too and it's only a matter of time before the figure out which kidnap victims have more money.

He isn't my first choice by any means, but we must back him now more than ever. The alternative of either the "Clinton Dynasty" continuing or Obama gun control and both of them rolling over on immigration and national security is unthinkable. Mad

I am so tired of all this political nonsense all over the cable channels. At this point, I would vote for " None of the Above". Take care...

The electoral process is way too long in our country and it wears everyone down. We listen to the talking heads on cable, we are engulfed in posters, billboards and endless commercials. And, many of us have strong opinions that often dictate responses and comments on forums such as this.

Would it be advantageous to have a Political or Election Forum on this website for the duration of the election in order to isolate our political commentary? Personally, I would like to see it as this will be a critical election for our country and I enjoy the banter and opinions of those on this site.

Chris...I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments of your selection for President. I like him.

His idea to punish the criminal, not the law abiding citizen is one that I have extolled for a long time.

The unfortunate thing is that its easier to control the law abiding people than the criminals. Its the judicial system that needs a shakeup...a real BIG shakeup because it is the courts that is to blame for the criminals getting away with "murder".

Cheers, Vince

Maybe I'm wrong but I doubt it will be so bad if Obamma or Billary wins. They are both so polarizing I don't think even the Democrat congress would follow their lead for long, then in 2012 maybe the liberal Republicans could see their way to supporting a real conservative. They should have learned that's the way to go with Regan but liberals of both parties are too arrogant to learn that the common man in this country rarely agrees with liberal policies of tax, spend and expand all factets of government.

Voting none of the above or silly write ins do not cut it guys. Not if you want to keep new and stupid gun laws off of the books.
Everyone has his likes and dislikes but if you like guns then get serious and vote for the only candidate that has taken a stand on bogus gun control laws.

I agree with Popgun...If you don't vote because you don't like any of the candidates cliton or obama will win...Whether you like Sen. McCain or not he IS pro gun...If nothing else. And I will promise you, the other two are absolutely not for gun ownership of any kind no matter what they say.
