Ok, seriously now !!!

Most pistols can hit a 3 inch dot all day long at 25 yards with the right shooter and load.
Getting into the short barrel and compact carry guns that will likely go up.

Should you want to put out some cash !!! You’ll be amazed at what a properly built 1911 can do at 50 yards !!!

Wow!! Another great question with about 1,000 answers. My .38 Specials. group within a 4" spread at 25 yards. My Woodsman groups within an inch at 25 yards. My Colt 1911 groups 3" at 25 yards. Both of my 9mm X 19 group within 5" at 25 yards. My Kimber goups within 2" at 25 yards and 1" at 21 feet. All (except the Woodsman and Kimber) group within 2" at 21 feet.

Pick and answer. And let the bragging begin...

I don't expect 2" groups at 300yds, but these numbers will give me some ideas of how my guns may perform. I do know that any weapon is accurate according to how it was made and the ability of the shooter, etc, etc! Thanks guys, you are doing a wonderful job of educating me!!!! Smile

I don't think you guys are hearing me correctly. I'm not basing what I'm telling you on one example, That one was the most dramatic, I see alot of handguns every day come into a repair shop for repair. Therefore I felt qualified to answer your question on Ruger automatic pistol reliability. I cannot recommend them with a clear concience. I know the difference between user error and mechanical malfunction. Defend them if you must, but I was being as honest as I could be. I would tell a family member the same.

I think the c.z. 75 and its knockoffs are the best value on the market right now, even the compacts are extremely well built and easy to control.

fnuser...Everyone else is referring to particular examples too. Like with anything, there are good and bad examples to point out. The purpose of a board like this is to explore all avenues and we need to hear the bad as well as the good.

vint2...My personal rule of thumb is being able to hit an area roughly the size of a grapefruit at combat ranges every time, even under pressure (which goes to the state of mind of the shooter as well.) What is "combat range"? A lot of the time your state or local laws will dictate what that is...and usually in vague terms. Since many states have an "Obligation to flee" law (the homeowner/defendant has an obligation to flee his/her attacker if at all possible before using deadly force) this distance is highly variable. Armament of the attacker needs to be considered as well. The defensible (in court) distance to an attacker armed with a firearm is of course greater than that of one armed only with a knife or club. The old rule used to be that most gunfights occurred at seven yards or less and most used that as a practice distance. In today's litigious society it is really anyone's guess.

We have solved that issue here in Missouri. We have passed a "stand your ground" rule. We are no longer "obligated to flee" here. Shooting proficiancy is at 7 yards (21 feet). And must be deminstrated with both revolver and semi-auto.

Bushmaster: Too bad Illinois doesn't take such a sensible approach...but what can we expect from the Kingdom of King Richard Daley and the home of Messiah Obama?

I should have stayed active with this one!!!

Most everything I have heard hear is absolutely dead ON!!!! Especially the aspect of mental conditioning to a lethal threat encounter!!!! That is one thing I did over look but kind of thought the classes would drill that into the student.

As far as the Ruger semi-auto's go, well I have a P-91DC that I really do like, alot!! As it was the first pistol I bought in my life. I put on some some Houge finger grooved grips and it made a HUGE Difference. While the accuracy may not be as good as a GLOCK or S&W.
I KNOW I can put them inside of a thoracic cavity if I need to and that is what counts not where they go on paper, but if you do not put it on paper then you will never what you can hit with it. Smile

Now the P85/89 series had some problems with accuracy but the folks at Ruger called in the folks from Bar-Sto I believe and and some serious improvements were made and the result was the P90 an EXTREMELY ACCURATE FOR TASK pistol. This was one of Mr. Ayoobs sidearms and the he had no serious complaints about it. But did have some trigger work done on it to smooth it up. The P90 was built to handle the 10mm which was at the time the up-and-coming do-all cartridge. So that design went into the following pistols and was later redesigned in the P94/95 series I think; after people made a fuss about them being "blocky" which I do happen to agree with.

I have carried ALOT of different firearms and each one has problems and advantages.

As far as locking up a NEW NAME BRAND firearm; TWICE!!!! THAT IS IN MY EXPERIENCE A BAD RELOADER!!!!
Not the fault of the pistol or it's designers! And yes I do have a bit of experience in this department!!!!

But that is why everyone has experiences I will never ever again own a Charles Daly firearm that is newly made as I had one break on me once. So I know what you are saying when you do not recommend a certain brand.

Go out and get those classes and then think over what you are doing and find one(firearm) that feels good to you. It "really" doesn't matter what it is as most of the time a .22LR will get the job done if you hit the right spot and most people do not want to be shot with ANYTHING even a BBgun!!

As I have stated before we are working here in Iowa to change our laws reagarding CCW/madatory retreat and I am happy to say we are making alot of friends and enemies as well. And one of those helping us is from MissouriCarry.ORG!! Hmmm? Maybe that is why the first website guys called it IowaCarry.ORG!!!
