An email I received from a mate today:

My friend Joe lives up in the Indian lake new York . Look at the photo Jane took in our front yard on Sunday!!!!!

This morning on Diamond Ridge (common drives).....

This thing is MASSIVE. Would hate to make him cranky...who knows what he could do.

Cheers, Vince

I dunnow....aint saying that one's real but up in N/E Washington me and pop have run accross some massive mooses blocking the road quite often.

Biggest one I ever saw his belly would probably just clear the hood on our stock 4-runner as we skid to a stop in the gravel towing out little tin fishing boat and we had to lean forward to see all of him. This hulking thing kinda looked back at us, then casually scaled the cut-bank and into the trees it went. Awsome display of nature.
Biggest thing's I've ever seen walking and man, what a chore it would be getting one dressed and back to the truck I imagine.

Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up every time and they look large enough that if they got pissed they could flip out little truck. At least to me anyways.

Mooses are scary big.

Pop had a coach gun in the truck at all times.
One bbl had buck the other a slug.....and, a butt-cuff with extras.

Bull's get pretty pissy during the rut and everything that moves is fair game. Those things scare the bajeebers outta me. Shocked

I'll stick to bird hunting thanks very much.... Laughing

OK lets not get carried away. Very Happy

Ya bulls can be a bit ornery during the rut, but that is a good thing as it makes calling them in more exciting. Saw a bull smash the hell out of a friends quad one time. Had them cause me nothing but grief with strings of pack horses in the mountains as well......all those ponies look like cow moost to a love sick bull.

Had a young bull climb up on the back of a pack horse one time, thinking he was going to get lucky. The big gelding gave him the old one...two....kicked him in the chest and then caught him in the chops with the second kick. When he connected I thought for sure that bull had a broken jaw, but he seemed no worse for wear and followed us for another ten miles of so till we got to our spike camp.

Another time we had a love sick bull come in after our pack horses and had to sick our red heeler dog on him (Aussie cattle dog). That was funny.

Still, moose aren't a big deal and if you are going to hang around in moose country the ones you need to be careful around are the cows with calves. They have done a tap dance on more than one unsuspecting person.

I'd imagine one could eat off a large bull for quite some time... that's a bunch of moose burgers fer sure.

Anyone here ever had it? What's it like? I never have. Now my tummy is curious.

Moose is great.............been eating it my whole life. Prefer it to elk. I have been hunting moose and filling our freezer with it for over 40 years and I have been guiding moose hunts for 32 years.

L O L ... I'll trade ya the Moose for the Elk any day...

I spent a month on a fishing boat in Alaska and all they had in the freezer was Moose. I had roasts, steaks, burgers and sausage. The sausage was the best, but still too sweet for my tastes. I understand, from my wife, that it tastes similar to horse meat...

Well I don't know...........my experience with moose is nothing like yours and I have eaten them from BC, Alberta, Manitoba, the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

The elk meat I have eaten is restricted to elk I have killed in BC, Alberta and Manitoba. The best elk we ever ate were the ones I killed in the Kootenay's in southeastern BC......and those were excellent.

I've eaten horse quite a few times and it doesn't taste anything like moose to me..........but that is my taste buds. Smile

I think it all depends on what you are use to. I can say the only bad moose meat I have had was because of poor shooting, poor handling after the kill, improper cooking or any combination there of. Had the odd tough one....as in older animals where the gristle lines are more pronounced, but the flavor was still good.

Each to their own.
