I need help with loads for a 6.5x55. There seems to be no loading data not desinged for actions not dating back to the 19th century. I have a new model 70 Winchester, and have been shooting 52grains of H 4831 behind a hornady 129grain bullet. My chrony says I am getting a little over 2900. Does anyone else have any data for a 140 bullet, or a 120grain bullet?

Welcome to the forums Smile

There is a Reloading Forum for these questions but I'll point you to the direction of some sites for it.

www.hodgdon.com/data/r...5x55sm.php

www.imrpowder.com/data...wedish.php

It has info on both a 85gr, 140gr and a 120gr bullet. Very Happy

Most of the loads listed in our reloading manuals are feeble in terms of todays 6.5x55s built on stronger actions. They're apt to remain anemic as long as so many older military surplus rifles are out there. The ballistics on the newer commercial 6.5s ae pretty impressive. Best wishes.

My Remington Classic in 6.5x55 has a 1 in 9" barrel twist and doesn't do all that well with the 140gr. bullets. I do quite well however with the Hornady 129gr. PSP pushed along by 48gr. of Rel-19. It groups .6" (5 at 100yds) with a velocity of 2815fps. It groups about the same with most 120gr. bullets. It also does extremely well with the Lapua Scenars in 108 and 123grs. but these are bench bulleys not hunting. Best wishes.

Time to reload for my 6.5mm

I am looking at Swift Scirocco 2 bullets that weigh in at 130 g. Anybody used them? I tend to use VV powder - N160 and going by the book I shouldn't use over 41g of powder. You guys seem to really push this bullet.

The rifle is a Tikka Master.

Any comments?

DB

I have found that in a modern action you can load to 308-30/06 pressure levels and come close on the heals of the 6.5x284.

this is using european brass with the correct CIP base diameter not brass reformed from 30/06 round which is smaller ane expands to much under the increased pressure.
Have had loads using 4831 SC over 3000 FPS with the 129's with good pressure but not excessive.

later
