I haven't been on in a while and haven't posted in a long time but I figured I would give the sad news to our southern members esp. in GA.

It looks like there will be another "damn Yankee" in GA. My wife and I should be moving to GA in the next couple of months, possibly sooner, so we can keep a close eye on my mother-in-law once we move her to a nursing home. Moving a southern lady like herself to the north would be too unkind. She's 89 and deserves to stay where she wants. We'll be moving into her old house in College Park, GA for now.

The way I've heard it, if you're from the north and you visit the south you're a "Yankee". If you visit and stay, you fall into the "Damn Yankee" category.

Sorry for any grief this may cause. Very Happy

RPM1031,
I'm sure they will welcome you with open arms, as long as you don't act like a "Damn Yankee" Smile
Good Luck!

RPM, you've got the definition correct! However, since you're a HuntingNut you'll be welcome in Dixie!

cb,

I can't help it. It's my nature. Very Happy

Thanks guys.

I've run across the gamut of responses in GA when I open my mouth and the truth of my up bringing is revealed. But I must say almost all have been great.

It will be nice to get away from the left wing politics of NJ. Other than that and the out of control taxes and "fees", tree huggers and the like, NJ is a great state.

Looking forward to the change.

Joe, It was nice having you as sort of a neighbor and appreciate the fact that the deer I've taken were from opposite sides of your state. The first on the Eastern shore and the other on top of a "mountain" in Garrett county.

Ice tea is for people who don't know how to drink tea. Sweet tea is to raise your blood sugar up 1,000% in the first sip.

I learned about "tea" back in '82. We had gone out for breakfast in Pensacola, FL and made the mistake of ordering "tea". Here in NJ if you ask for tea you get "hot" tea. The term"sweet" tea doesn't cover it especially first thing in the morning. When your yankee eyes roll back in your head and your teeth start to curl, the sugar level is just about right. Shocked Confused wtf

I have learn to appreciate some of the finer thing:
black eyed peas with greens , ham hocks, top with onions and hot sauce every New Years eve.
biscuits with sausage and gravy!
LA red beans and rice

Just to name a few.

Not that you haven't gone far enough. But you can NOT live down here until you regularly order "eggs-n-grits-n-biscuit". And ya don't ask for sausage...ya ask for "Jimmy Dean". Poke :

Don't even THINK about asking for maple syrup. That would be a dead give-away. Just ask for syrup and make do with the molasses they bring to ya. Wave

Welcome to God's country!

One more thing RPM. If you get home sick, just take a short trip over to Atlanta. Yankees took it over in the '80's'. Lot of horn blowing, practicing the alphabet with spray paint and concrete walls, with some "middle finger" pointing and such as that going on. Poke Make ya feel like you took a trip across the Hudson. Bring back old times. Nuts

Again. Welcome. Glad to have ya. Smile

TC, thanks for the tips. My wife fix me up a mess of grits and eggs just a few days ago.

Would that be blackstrap? I'm sure we'll have to switch from "Grandma's" original molasses (B&G foods Parsippany, NJ) that we have now to something that a respectable southerner would allow in their home. Truthfully I thought my wife had picked some up this summer in SC when we stopped for chow-chow along with fresh picked peaches.

I don't make the trip over the river unless I have to and I haven't been in about 10+ yrs.
