Opposite of what you are talking about here but poor ettiquette non the less..

I was hunting in public ground and heard a shot from over the ridge to my south.. a minute later I see a doe that had obviously been hit so I dropped it. I waited a few minutes to see if someone would show up.. no one did so I climbed down from the stand and walked over to see a fellow still sitting in his stand.. I said your doe is over the hill there - He says "I gut shot that thing - you killed it you tag it... Not looking for an altercation I told him he was an Ass and went back to the doe and tagged it. But the laugh was on him as when I got to the doe he had only grazed its abdomen and opened the muscles so that her innards were hanging out and had not gut shot her at all. I was kind of hoping for a big buck but the doe ate just fine.

In general - I am more likely to give credit to someone else if there is a question. In my 50 years I have killed enough game to know that I can...I do not need to claim every duck or coyote or deer I shoot at in a group.

I have a buddy who arranges waterfowl hunts for some of his best customers.. If they have an opening in a blind he will put me in there and say "Make them look good". I wait until the customers shoot and try to make sure that what they are shooting at goes down and slap them on the back and tell them what a great shot they made.. The paid guides just smile and nod...

Unfortunatly there is very little ettiquette practiced these days. Int he past couple years I have heard of many occasions where someone has just come in and taken game from other people in our area without ever firing a shot. It is rediculous.

Dawgdad I sure can relate to the doe story we see it all the time trout fishing with arseholes being very rough on fish and mishandling them and chucking them back they will die later. If they bleed knock em on the head and they are part of your daily bag I say. we also see it with protected species being shot on opening of duckshooting. man it really gets me hot under the collar I have given a few guys a bollicking over the years for this.My kids have been told to do it right right from the start ,if they argue kick up the butt soon sorted it out. If I ever see them doing the wrong thing out there they know there will be no sympathy and the Fish n Game boys n girls can deal with them.
