Yeah, that's what I like about the old magazines. It's a real contrast to how pussified society has become recently.
The gun evaluations hadn't yet become co-opted by their advertising interests either. The writers didn't pull any punches back then.
This issue has a great write up of a prototype bolt action rifle the writer had a chance to test: the soon-to-be-introduced Winchester Model 70. He had nothing bad to say about this innovative new rifle, but really slammed some of the then available bolt action competition. This is a lengthy article, but I am considering taking the time to type it up as a HuntingNut article. Very good reading.
