I thought I had seen it all, but I saw a 98 with a tang safety after I got it home it had a alloy bottom metal so I got a bottom metal from Brownell"s and now I'm re-stocking it.

Tang safety on a 98? I've never seen one either. Could you post some pictures? I'd love to see how they did it. Good luck on your project.

the 6.8 is done I like it, the tang safety thing is coming up roses I even found an English walnut stock blank

It is hard to tell, there were alot of "cottage" in the "98 sporter family it looks like the tang extension was done well though. the receiver looks alot like the Santa Barbara lineage as it is a full "c" frame. Ya know the partition between the barrel and bolt.

it looks like the Austrian made Voere "98's were tang safety so I am guessing this was one of those.
