I'm in the market for new sights for my pistol. I would be interested in others comments and experiences.

stovey suggested trying these.

I've been considering all black for my comp barrel because it coats the front sight with powder residue.

But then for my new Glock, I was going to consider some fiber-optic sights.

Then this morning, I spotted these. Never seen them before but I'm attracked to them like a bug to a zapper.

I suppose it really comes down to what you intended primary use of your new pistol is going to be Slim.

I am assuming that it may well do service as a carry gun which means you will need hi-viz sights that you can pick up easily during the day and at night. However, these sights need to be nicely rounded and "smallish" so they don't present any problems when carried or if, heaven forbid, you ever need to draw your pistol...you don't want them snagging on your clothes. This is where the tritium type sights shine, pun intended.

If your new pistol is going to be a target/range pistol, then you want sights that will give you a more precise sight picture. In this case a big "blocky" rear sight and a "prominent" foresight will be more suited and not be a problem.

There are compromise sighting systems available, but remember, they are a compromise in both situations.

The Advantage Tactical Sighting System is very pretty...and would lend itself best to a carry gun rather than a target pistol I would imagine.

Cheers, Vince

Good piont, Vince. My carrier gun and home defense all have tritium sights. What good is a pistol if you cannot aim it at night. These sights will go on my long-slide Glocks for action/tactical matches during the day. There may be something said for practicing with the same sight that I would use in an emergency situation.

I tend to graviate to Novak sight systems. I prefer simplicity and durability and quality.

Novak sigths, thanks for the suggestion. They have some good looking fiber optic units.

I've always used Williams for my rifle sights. Forgot they made pistol sights. They don't break the bank either.

Hm...had a look at the Pistol Firesights. They look like they would offer great visibility, but I would not consider the front sight to be "CCW friendly".

Looked at the Novak Sight System as well...again, a great looking system, but that front sight is just so high and looks like it would catch on clothing very easily. I may be wrong, but even the Novak website says it is better suited to target shooting.

Having said all of the above, I'm sure a competent gunsmith or shooter could correct that with careful radius filing of corners etc.

Cheers, Vince

Novak's

Heinie

Warren/Savigny

I have Warren Savigny on my G17.

If you shoot IDPA, the Advantage Tactical Sights aren't Kosher.

I was changing out sights on my Glock pistol to better balance the amount of light on each side of the front side compared to the rear notched. I found something interesting. The factory Tritium Night Sights on my G17, which I like because they have slightly larger tritium tubes, can not be swaped to another pistol. The front sight is staked instead of having a bolt hold it in like aftermarket sights. Fiddle-sticks!

Moral of the story, just buy your Glocks with their standard fixed factory sights. Then swap them out to the aftermarket ones you wanted.

I found this website provides more details on specific pistol sights than even provided by the manufactures. Worth a look.

They claim their Advantage Tactical Sight has been approved for IDPA as well as USPSA. Shooters have stated they have used them in matches.

I'm pretty close to getting a set of these. I'm even eyeing them for my shotgun and AR.
