Today is St-Valentine day and as usual I invited my wife out for dinner at the restaurant. I let her know that she could pick the restaurant of her choice. So she picks a unique restaurant that her girlfriend suggested. Right there that scares me. Suggested by her girlfriend means trouble. They have wild game on the menu such as red deer, bison, ostrich, wild pig etc. all animals raised on a fenced-in farm. I have been married since august 25 1958 and since we are still together you will realize that I know better than to argue or to suggest another place such as the ‘Greek’s Greasy Spoon’ where I am served a large T-bone steak with lots of potatoes and a small salad. The small mouthful of red deer meat will have to do and I will eat all the greens that they serve with it. At the Greek’s when you arrive, you sit, order, eat, and get out all within 45 minutes and the bill is very reasonable. At this fancy restaurant where we are going it’s a three hour job with a fiddler serenading my wife until I get fed up and tuck a 10$ bill in his pocket so that he will let me eat my supper in peace. Luckily St-Valentine day occurs only ounce per year and my view is that it should be on February 29th rather than on the 14th.
What do you think of that?

I like that suggestion for the 29th Smile

and I'd suggest to order T-bone steak as dessert in the other restaurant, I think everybody will immediatly understand what you mean and even your wife will remember this next time when she choses a restaurant.
Don't forget to laugh in time, when you're too late it can have nasty consequences for your Valentine-evening Smile

Love it! I can definitely feel your pain! I can identify with the "recommended" comment - every time my wife (who is an outstanding cook when she sticks to her recipes) tries one of those recommended recipes from a friend, the dog gets a treat...'cause it generally is inedible! Keep it up; you have to have been doing something right to be married all those years. And congratulations on that!

eeyouelder, its not the dinner that counts. Its what you get for "dessert".

We were having lunch with a young male co-worker who was single on Monday when he said to us, "you guys are luck. You married guys are guaranteed to get some "dessert" on Valentine's Day." The married guys reacted without hesitation "what planet do you live on?"

One time back in history with my first wife, we went to a fancy schmancy restaurant and I was served my steak which was the size a a marshmellow and about three pieces of colored string that I think were vegetables. I excused myself to go to the mens room and quickly ran across the street into MacDonalds and wolfed down a big mac. I never told her but it sure is fun remembering that escapade.
