Oh yeah...And I use the Ruger 10/22 for the granddaughters. At preasent I have 6 granddaughters and only two grandsons. The girls seem to take more of an interest in shooting then the boys. Not sure why, but I do not question it. It's fun having the girls on the range. Only man out there with herd of young ladies following him around tittering.

ROUGH duty, Bushmaster!, but nice... Very Happy

Sniper...You're right. One of the best things in life is having the priviledge of teaching your Grandchildren. I really don't care if they are girls or boys. If I am allowed to pass on what I know to my children and my Grandchildren...Then I musta done right by my kids...And I have a bunch to teach.

Very Happy When my dad let me go on my first hunt outside the family, I was pretty proud. My pals all laughed at my deer rifle though. A Springfield Trapdoor in 45/70 govt. My pals had some nice looking rifles and all were smaller and lighter than mine, but I had been using the trapdoor for 6 years and knew the gun.

One of my pals wounded his deer (30/30) and we never did find that one.
Another one 30-06 in Remington 700 made a bad hit, but we found him.
two clean kills, and then mine.

Two of my pals saw my hit, and no one laughed at the 45/70 after it picked the deer up and laid it on its side. Clean kill and it didn't run. No meat loss either before you guys ask.

What is the best deer calibre? One that puts them down cleanly and a shooter that can hit in one shot....

in WA you have to use a minimum of 24 caliber for cenerfire rifle, no rimfire [though you are allowed to hunt cougar with 22 cal centerfire]; 10-20 ga with #1 buckshot or larger or slugs; long bows/compound bows/recurve bows with at least a 40 lb pull at full draw and no more than 65% let off, no optical sights/lasers, the only exception is crossbows for the disabledw/ proper permits. Washington is fairlystrictwith itshunting laws. however to awnser the question i prefer my mosin-nagant 91/30 or my 20 ga w/ slugs. shouldnt expect a shot to be more than 200 yrds, 300 at the most, with alot of shots bein at under 100.
