As a neurotic type who panics if my supply of bullets for reloading gets below 200 or so for any given cartridge, I was devastated when I went to stock up on 52-grain Hornady Amax bullets. My usual supplier online listed them as "discontinued ' with no explanation. A quick check of a couple more sources found the same. Since this bullet is far and away the most accurate in my 22/250, I was pretty upset.

The good news is that a conversation with Hornady revealed that their new ELD-Match is the same bullet as the Amax, but with a tougher polycarbonate tip to better resist heat erosion at high velocities. Weight, B.C., length and loading data remains the same...including stabilizing in my 1:14" twist barrel.

Maybe others knew this, but thought I would toss it out there.

Thanks for that.
It was only the other day I was looking for the very same bullet, also for use in the 22-250, as it is widely seen as THE most accurate in that calibre.
Now I know what to look for, I'll stock up.

Yep, Hornady is displacing the Amax line with ELD. I hadn't heard they were the same bullet as Amax is some cases.

the zombiemax with the puke green tip is also the same bullet....the 50 grn jobbies working well for me and price by buying 500 at a time is great.
in some bigger calibres zmax can be a sst or amax.

Yep...good pickup SSS...will make life easier for a lot knowing this mate.

I'm using the Hornady 55gr VMAX and ZMAX in my .223 because it is the same bullet and I'm getting better than acceptable accuracy with them. Wasn't aware that there was a crossover between different types though. I will have to have a look at the ELD to see how it performs in my Savage.

Hornady said all AMAX BULLETS were being changed to ELD-M, but I think VMAX will stay...at least for now. I was concerned because my rifle shoots 52-grain AMAX far better than any other brand or weight.
